California Transparency in Supply Chains Act of 2010

To Our Valued Customers:

The following are our thoughts related to the California Transparency in Supply Chains Act of 2010 (SB 657) and work done to address risks of human trafficking and slavery.

We have great concern for the rights of all who work to provide products sold in our stores. We address such matters in our agreements with our suppliers; in fact, the code of conduct in our agreements requires that our suppliers:

…represent and warrant that the goods sold to TJ's were produced, harvested, manufactured, processed, packaged, labeled, transported, delivered, and sold in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations of the United States of America and all of its subdivisions and, if applicable, the laws of any other country, state, or international governing body… that the goods sold to TJ's were not produced, harvested, manufactured, processed, packaged, labeled, transported, or delivered using forced or prison labor or forced or illegal child labor.

We monitor compliance with our agreement through scheduled and unannounced visits and audits of our suppliers' facilities, using our own crew members and third-party groups.

If any of our suppliers are found to be not in compliance with our agreement, we will terminate the relationship.

As we expect our suppliers to abide by these requirements, it also our expectation that Trader Joe's Crew Members follow suit. We hold ourselves accountable to these standards and work to inform and train our people covering the supply chain of the products we offer our customers on the risks of human trafficking and slavery.

It was NOT a chain letter .. it was a petition and personal contacts ---  and just like Fresh Market which came because of a petition and invitation campaign ---- that IS how they decided to come to Colonie.

Whether you or senders or some other nayboob chooses to believe the TRUTH does not change the TRUTH.

Sorry, Ron, but you're wrong, the letters had nothing to do with it.  Just check the full story in the Times Union today...

Alison Mochizuki, a company spokeswoman, wouldn't credit the area "We Want Trader Joe's" group for the chain's arrival.
"Wooing doesn't affect our decision making," Mochizuki said. "But it's really nice to be wanted."

Oh, wait, that says the Facebook group didn't bring it, I guess a couple people signing a letter might have done it... yeah... that's it.

How could Albany County get any new businesses?  They don't have a Metroplex.

That is the well known, well documented, DVOR INTELLIGENCE FACTOR that will be making decisions about town planning.....exciting, isn't it?  i would say that if others in position of decision making are similar, then there is only one word to describe Rotterdam's future....   DOOMED!

Highly doubt Trader Joes came to Colonie because of a chain letter.

Businesses do a bit more research and consideration prior to opening up a million dollar enterprise. Again, as Senders stated - there's more traffic there and people willing to spend the cash.

To take a risk and open this in Schenectady and/or Troy.....lower median incomes, higher property and school taxes and a higher crime rate. Not quite all the qualities a major chain looks for.

Again, you've got to clean up the City and lower taxes in order to get the middle/upper middle class to come in ...THEN the businesses will follow...

Trader Joes is coming to colonie because 'OF' Trader Joes! Not because of some letters!!   that is too funny!
That isn't how business/corporations work!!!

It is only in Schenectady where Ray Gillen/The Metroplex/Stratton/McCarthy have to 'seek out', 'bribe' and 'beg' businesses to relocate/move in!!! Deperate times calls for 'embarrassing desperate measures'!!!

Goin' out to dinner tonight with some of our friends who live and are actively involved in colonie....We'll ask 'em aboutTrader Joes!

The petitions and invitations played a role in letting the corporate management know that the community was interested in them.  It was a lot more than a "couple people signing a letter" -- and yes -- the corporation did do its own research  (no one -certainly not I - ever claimed that any corporation doesn't do its own research) ......    and you folks have not proven that residents inviting and petitioning companies to consider locating in their community is somehow a bad thing.

Trader Joe's is the second example of the success of such an effort -- Fresh Market was the first example.  And I will continue to encourage that town residents invite businesses that they like to consider locating in our town.  Show some community pride and talk up the positives about our town and county.  be a part of positive change in your hometown

And there is ABSOLUTELY NO EVIDENCE that Metroplex played any role in the company's decision to open its first store in Albany County.

Don't worry, we are all very aware that the only businesses Metroplex can secure can easily be bribed.

Trader Joes seems like an upstanding kinda' place...

WHAT PART OF THIS CAN YOU NOT COMPREHEND???  DO YOU WANT US TO DRAW CARTOONISH PICTURES BEFORE YOU GET IT?  THIS IS HOW YOU WILL CONTINUE TO ACT IN YOUR TOWN POSITION....IF SO, BE FULLY AWARE AS A PUBLIC PERSON YOU ARE SUBJECT TO PUBLIC EXPOSURE OF "EVERYTHING" YOU SAY AND WRITE.....

Maybe you don't get it --- #1) being a public person has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with this topic --- so you can blow your smoke/hot air  elsewhere
#2)  the petitions and the invitations had some impact ... I think it is a good idea and I personally encourage town residents to  encourage, invite and other wise speak positively to current and prospective business owners (small, medium and large) to consider locating in our town or at least our county ---

so you can go take out a bill board and tell everyone ....   I think the Town of Rotterdam and Schenectady County is a great place to live and I welcome current and prospective business owners to take a look at this wonderful place and consider coming here.

REALLY...we shall see. You better wake up. This topic talks about how business is conducted. You interjected your unsupportable facts and were shown them no to be true. It shows how you....a member of the Town Planning Committee, is UNWILLING to move either side of your own personal points and WILL NEVER BEND OR LISTEN TO WHAT OTHERS HAS TO SAY.  I thought you might change...even gave you the benefit of the doubt....but as usual you are you and will remain a narrow minded arrogant baffoon!
Look for me at the planning meetings!

The topic is Trader Joes is coming to Albany --- and the FACT is that town residents did mount a petition and letter campaign  ---- that is an ABSOLUTE FACT.

The FACT is that I encourage our town residents to do the same thing -- if they see a business that they like  (out of state or out of the area)  .... invite it to consider coming to our town or county. Speak positively about our town and our county.

There is nothing "narrow minded" about encouraging people to be proactive and positive about their hometown --- and I suggest if you don't like my positive attitude .. then the problem is yours not mine .. because I will remain eternally optimistic and positive about my hometown.

Colonie got a Trader Joe's because a group of residents made the effort to contact the company,  got signatures on a petition asking them to consider Colonie as a location and basically telling the company WE WANT YOU TO COME.

Here's whagt you said...so as I said before.... PROVE IT!
Prove that the company spokewoman is wrong and that she doesn't know what she is talking about.
Quit using your opinions as fact and PROVE IT!
