Trader Joe’s has confirmed it will open a store at 79 Wolf Road in Colonie, ending ongoing speculation that the chain would open in the building.
The store is scheduled to open in the second quarter, the chain said, and will be approximately 13,000 square feet in size.
Trader Joe’s, for those who’ve never been, is a grocery store with a following of devoted shoppers — so devoted, in fact, that it’s been the subject of an ongoing “We Want Trader Joe’s in the Capital District” campaign.
The nearest Trader Joe’s to Albany is in Hadley, Mass., near the University of Massachusetts. But late last year, the chain, headquartered in southern California, announced that it would open in Rochester, fueling optimism that a Capital Region store was possible.
Any smart business seeks an area that can support their products/services. Schenectady's dss folks can't afford it....and now neither can the schenectady working taxpayers. There are less and less folks in schenectady that can afford much beyond their basic necessities. But that was 'created'.
The liberal socialist progressive dems have created a society that would rather demand welfare and food stamps instead of JOBS!!!
SUCCESS!!

Absolutely the truth!!
As well, I'm sure that the fact that recent crime stats from the State Division of Criminal Justice Services showing that violent crime is decreasing in Albany may have helped Trader Joes decision.
These same stats showed that violent crime keeps increasing in both Schenectady and Troy.
If a City wants new business, it has to begin by decreasing crime, taxes and handouts.
Colonie got a Trader Joe's because a group of residents made the effort to contact the company, got signatures on a petition asking them to consider Colonie as a location and basically telling the company WE WANT YOU TO COME.
I seem to remember about a year ago -- when I suggested that residents of Rotterdam/Schenectady County should be doing the same thing --- a whole bunch of you starting with MikeChristine and GrahamBonnet attacked me and ridiculed the idea ... and claimed I was against small business etc. I would suggest that those folks need to start listening to my advice and opinions -- they might actually learn something.

Highly doubt Trader Joes came to Colonie because of a chain letter.
Businesses do a bit more research and consideration prior to opening up a million dollar enterprise. Again, as Senders stated - there's more traffic there and people willing to spend the cash.
To take a risk and open this in Schenectady and/or Troy.....lower median incomes, higher property and school taxes and a higher crime rate. Not quite all the qualities a major chain looks for.
Again, you've got to clean up the City and lower taxes in order to get the middle/upper middle class to come in ...THEN the businesses will follow...
Yeah, I can't believe DV could EVER think that a mere petition would get a business to come to the area. How about the company studied the area for many things, studied their competition, studied the population.
DUH, how can ANYONE on this earth be so ignorant about business, marketing, and retailing
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

This one statement by itself tells me how out of touch with business reality you are...and to think you will make planning decisions. You say we shoud have listened to you....on the contrary, you should start listening to us. You have failed to hear the voice of the people REPEATEDLY...now you are a public figure and had best change your mindset.
JUST BECAUSE SISSY SAYS SO DOESN'T MAKE IT SO...BUT HE THINKS IT DOES!!!!! JUST BECAUSE MC1 SAYS SO DOESN'T MAKE IT SO!!!!!

It was NOT a chain letter .. it was a petition and personal contacts --- and just like Fresh Market which came because of a petition and invitation campaign ---- that IS how they decided to come to Colonie.
Whether you or senders or some other nayboob chooses to believe the TRUTH does not change the TRUTH.
