David Brooks on 'Conservative Ideas'...

"Like most Americans, including most evangelicals under 40, I find this culture war language absurd. If conservative
ideas were that much more virtuous than liberal ideas, then the conservative parts of the country would have
fewer social pathologies than the liberal parts of the country. They don’t."

It's actually worse than that. Those "family values" Red States have higher rates of divorce and teen pregnancy
than the godless, liberal Blue States.
The most conservative states in the country are also the poorest."

The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral
philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

The GOP needs to get back to what I call the "pragmatic conservative values" of Barry Goldwater and Ronald Reagan.

This thread should be named "Social conservative values" as that is what the author is really talking about.

it seems today no one can separate social conservative from fiscal conservative. Thats why I have no political party.... maybe the fiscal conservatives are really the independents.

What are the definitions for Liberal, Progressive, and Moderate. I need to be properly categorized so I know what candidates are trying to appeal to me.

The problem is that the media and the parties are tied to someones pocketbook and make you go all in or all out on these definitions.

The best part of the "old" Republican party was their fiscal conservationism.  They would always be the voice for
"how are we going to pay for it".  That ended with 'Ronny the Reagun'.
Reagan/Bush took office with $1trillion in debt, and left with $3trillion.  That leveled off under Clinton, but went through
the roof with George Worst Bush.
The old time Republicans would accuse the Democrats of "TAX & SPEND"... while they turned into the party of
"CUT TAXES AND SPEND".

Ya have to take a look at this david brooks. He is a flip flopper from way back. First a liberal...then a conservative...then supports the iraq/afghan war....then he doesn't support the wars.....then he thinks there's too much teen sex and divorce yet supports abortion....then he leaves his conservative roots to promote gay marriage. He calls himself a moderate when the subject fits his journalistic spin. He's all over the map with his ideologies and has been labeled a neocon aka fascist!

He clearly is not one of the 99%!

Conservative Values, are those talking points that Conservatives harp on when running for office... not a standard that
they live their life by.

It's do as I say, not as I do.

It's don't bother making an effort, I'm not going to give you my money but I am going to find someone else's and give it to you.
