For Sale:
1101 Ardsley: MLS 201124352 1,776 sq ft, 1 family, assessed at $185,000: Price $199,500 Taxes: $7,803
Compared to 5 minutes down Rte. 50...
8 Wendy Lane, Burnt Hills: MLS 200131492 1,744 sq ft, 1 family, assessment n/a: Price $224,900 Taxes: $3,970
More Schenectady:
1112 Ardsley: MLS 201119721 2,725 sq ft, 1 family, assessed at $229,100: Price $189,900 Taxes: $9,674
1491 Dorwaldt 1,180 sq ft, 1 family, assessed at $129,900: Price $139,900 Taxes: $5,357
The $224,900 home in Burnt Hills has lower taxes than the assessed $129,000 in Schenectady. That's a no-brainer. |

$806.17 a month in TAXES ALONE.....OMG!!! .........add the mortgage payment and homeowner's insurance...OMG! You are talking $2K/month to live in the city of schenectady BEFORE your basic living expenses such as food, clothing, transportation....etc! Folks would have to be out of their minds!!! |

And all the City can come up with is an open house?!?!? We're not even talking about the schools, environment, etc...this is simply about the affordability of owning a home in the City. Once the numbers are crunched (with the all-powerful Key Bank..what a laugh), the $800+ amount per month for taxes is unrealistic. A hundred Open Houses won't fix the harsh reality - the middle class cannot afford the City taxes and the upper class aren't dumb enough to pay them. The only solution is to cut taxes. The City has to do a complete audit of every single item..starting with employee contracts/ benefits and pensions. If taxes do not start to come down, you'll drive out the remaining few and you won't attract anyone else into the City. |

The city needs to file bankruptcy ... that way they can start over fresh with all the contracts and get spending under control, once and for all. |

Come to Schenectady to pay the highest taxes in the state and watch other people attend the shows at Proctors because you sure won't be able to afford to go. |

It would help but when the city admin does nothing to eliminate/reduce spending, the difference would just disappear. |

The more money they have.......the more they spend.
Honestly.....answer this one simple question.....seriously.............what would be at least one reason why 'anyone' would move to schenectady? What's the draw? |
