Perhaps they should start trying to sell these homes to the cops, firefighters, elected officials, non-profit workers, city business owners and all county workers FIRST!!

If these folks don't want to live in the city........why would anyone else? OH...that's right...for the welfare benefits and the supply of illegal drugs!

When they do this special weekend thing, it would be most appropriate for EACH AND EVERY department head to be present at the open houses and explain to the visitors why they (the department heads) do NOT live in the city.

How about that?    What do you think DV?   If the mayor wants peoplle to move into the city, shouldn't his own administration tell people while they choose not  to live in the city?

How about it SB, should it be OK for the city administration to live outside the city and avoid the high taxes and low quality of life while imposing it upon everyone else?

Should the mayor set an example and mandate all department heads live in the city within 30 days or they get fired?    Do you cheerleaders agree?

Will DV be appearing at the open houses showing interest?    Not on your life, the HYPOCRITE

If you cheer for the city, and you cheer for increasing taxes on the homeowners to cover the cost of the taxes of the downtown millionaires then I think you should explain why you avoid living in the city yourself.

If you are a dept head and the taxpayers pay your salary, then you have an obligqation to explain to the homeowners why you do not live in the city.

If you are the mayor, paid by taxpyaers' money, yo uhave an abligation to mandate that ALL department heads and those who make policy, influence policy, etc be mandated to move into the city within 30 days or get fired.

Actually, if you own any of these places downtown or in any way  connected with financially gaining from these projects, then you shoud live IN the city.   THAT is a decision a responsible mayor would make.   A mayor who puts the taxpayers and residents first would mandate that anyone who gets taxpayer money downtown should be required to live in the city and pay just like those who are footin the bill

Awwww.   What's the matter?   You are too embarrassed to post that the department heads should live in the city?   Huh?    Because it would be going against what your socialist buddies want for the city?

So, for all the cheerleading you do for the city, I trust you WILL appear at the open houses, and buy while prices and mortgage rates are low, right?

Admit it, you wouldn't dream of paying almost the highest taxes in the country and live among the druggies, the dealers, the panhandlers, the falling apart houses, the gunmen, streets that don't get plowed, sewers that will soon stink again, a city where they don't even collect trash once a week (while paying twice for it), driving on roads that ruin your car, etc

MC1, You post how I feel.  I admire your persistence with trying to get through to this low life.  I really don't have it in me.  There is nothing we can say or do to chnage these guys.  Whats done is done.  The nicest thing about having Riggi in that seat is that we will get notice of things about 3 months earlier.  He wont chnage things, but will only slow down the speed of there dumb moves.  It will also allow us to show there supidity at a more transparent level later when we totally implode.  Cant wait for the debt down grade.......its coming.

Can't answer the question, can you?

Should McC mandate that his administration live IN the city and set an example for prospective homebuyers?   If not, tell us WHY should the dept heads not have to pay the city taxes?

Are the SFD & SPD members participating getting overtime for it?
I think you can count on it, because as I seem to recall, they were demanding comp time to coach the PAL, which is a non-profit youth group.
Coming in on your day off to help for profit real estate sales?

You can count on the fact that they aren't doing it out of the goodness in their hearts.

One again - you are wrong.  Command Staff are salaried and will not get paid overtime.

Second, the assertion that police officers were demanding TC originated from an article by Kathleen Moore.  When queried about who made the demands she repplied that it was  handful of officers who wished to remain anonymous.

I have a wonderful idea.

Yow about the mayor mandate that ALL department heads along with each and every police officer and firefighter that live outside the city, the mayor should not just require them to live in the city but rather mandate they buy the longtime vacant houses as a condition of having their job.   Hey, they get paid the lavish taxpayer funded salary + benefits, typically 4 times more than the average household

Great idea, yes?   Of course no one could come up with a better idea than this.   Proves the mkayor has no intelligence otherwise he would have come up with the idea himself.

If you do not agree, please explain why not.   Explain WHY should dept heads be exempt from living in the city and paying the high taxes.   Why should the lavishly high paid inner circle be exempt from the high taxes they force upon the struggling homeonwers?   Try answering that.   Of course, you can't

Yeah, how about explaining why Carl Olsen, for example, should be able to live OUTSIDE the city, far from the hihg taxes, then he can support the double taxing for trash collection, YES, people, the homeonwers in the city DO INDEED PAY TWICE for trash collection, they pay through their property tax PLUS they pay through the non-tax deductible trash "FEE" which has already increased twice.   So Olsen can impose these high costs, make the homeowners pay it, but the mayor can tell him that he is exempt from paying those costs becuae he can live outside the city.   Why?

Speaking of Olsen, how is it that he spends his time sitting around at dunkin donuts at state and Kelton?   I'm not talking running in and buying a coffee and then leaving, nor a 15 mkinute break, how is it that taxpayer funded employees can sit around for a half hour or more in DD?   Almost daily?

SCHENECTADY
City making sales pitch
Officials to be on hand for Sunday’s open house

BY KATHLEEN MOORE
Gazette Reporter

For those looking to buy a house in Schenectady, Sunday is the day. The city will host its first citywide open house Sunday,
complete with visits from the mayor, fi re chief, police chief, school superintendent, bankers and others who hope to help seal the deal for new homeowners.
The event is part of the partnership between the city and KeyBank to sell more houses in a city where too many are empty.
KeyBank is offering better rates on mortgages and home improvement loans through the Key to the City program, while the city is offering grants to assist fi rst-time homebuyers. KeyBank workers will be available all afternoon at City Hall to perform pre-approvals, while school and city offi cials will visit the houses to talk to buyers. They have been directed to answer questions, not deliver a sales pitch, Mayor Gary Mc-Carthy said.
“It’s to not have a predetermined script, because then it becomes too phony,” he said. “I’ll be answering questions.”
Among the questions he expects: What about the crime?
He plans to explain that for most homeowners, there’s nothing to worry about.
“The communities are generally very safe, if you’re not involved in high-risk behavior,” he said, citing drug users, sellers and prostitutes among those who are probably not safe.
He should know — before becoming mayor, he investigated crimes to help the District Attorney’s Offi ce prosecute cases.
But if the prospective buyer isn’t convinced, the police chief can offer statistics. He’ll be there too.

Maybe some of us should go to these open houses and ask the people hosting them where they live?

We've already heard it here, major crimes downtown are "down".  There's nothing to worry about.  Domestic violence? Don't give it a thought - same for strangulations issues.  Pesky tho they are.

Don't tell them about the pan handlers, prostitutes walking state st near McClellan, or the high school graduation rates .. that might scare them off a bit.

Of course, Monday's rag will feature a new homeowner, talking with McCarthy or the police chief, and them ending up buying that particular house, and how they were all impressed that "the mayor" actually came to welcome them to the neighborhood.  The fluff next week will be thick, get your boots ready!

Come to Schenectady and buy a house at a new low rate and then the city will tax you into bankruptcy.
