At the Council Meeting finance presented a proposal to incrrease the STOP LOSS insurance (Umbrella medical insurance) to $100,000 from $75,000 to save the city $100,000 with a new vendor. Some council members asked the right questions such as how many of these cases do we see on an annual basis since if it is 4 or more it would negagte the savings to the city. These policies not only include the employee but the employees family. Finance said they werent sure but, "it wasnt many". Bruckner asked what "wasnt many" and they again couldnt provide the figures. How could anything like this be considered or presented by anyone unless the known benefits are known. Either this was a rushed, shoot at the hip decision or their is something to hide. But here is the kicker folks. These smartys in the room presenting this idea were only concentrating on the Stop Loss Portion. Raising the limit from over $75,000 to $100,000 will of course save the city money similarly to a increasing your deductable on your car insurance. Increasing the starting point of the Stop Loss from $75,000 to $100,000 while saving money on that side will cost more money on the regular insurance. The $100,000 savings is not their. It will be eaten up by the increase in the regular insurance premiums that will have to rise to handle the move from $0 to 75,000 to $0 to $100,000. Another lube it up and slam it through without sufficient questions. Folks, we are not being properly represented by this Council, that is clear. The Council will shove this in like everything else. Vince Riggi, please get into this issue more if possible?!?!?!? It smells. Summary of what stop loss insurance is. http://www.buzzle.com/articles/what-is-stop-loss-insurance.html |
