Sad to see how bad this area has gotten. Most of the business have closed or are run down and the houses in the nearby neighborhood are in disrepair. My family came from Odell street about a block and a half away, and this used to be a nice street full of familys and neighbors that took care of their propertys and respected each other. Hamilton Hill, it's residents and their lifestyles have spread throughtout the city. I wish I had a solution to these problems, but I don't, just sad....

It wasn't in front of Proctor's / Bombers, so as far as the city is concerned, it doesn't count. By the way, isn't this in the general area of where they're closing the sub-station?

Nah that was the revenue collection building, it had nothing to do with fighting crime or keeping the streets safe. All the employees there were civilians except for the occasional cop who stopped by for coffee.

Are you talking about the Stewarts or the local cop shop?  Last thing I knew, any cop that walks into any place in any city / town that sells coffee expects to get a "complimentary" cup.  Usually due to the fact that they might not get the appropriate "protection?"  Sounds familiar to stories I heard about people who are trying to discredit hard-working Italian-Americans.

What a shame this is!

I read in one of the papers last week after Gary McCarthy won, that he said that one of the first things he would do is revitalize erie blvd. So it looks like it will be business as usual with McCarthy. We can all get used to reading about more crimes in the city.

I really have to disagree with this! I've visited many a coffee shop in Schenectady and when Schenectady police visit, they ALWAYS refused anything free....coffee, food, etc. Honestly, that is one thing I can attest to, they do not take freebies. Maybe some...but I've never seen it.

I have witnessed at the Scotia DD, a Scotia cop more-or-less demand a free coffee. That was a little uncomfortable.

NOTHING! They will pretend the problem doesn't exist. Blame Al for all the problems. How Stewarts, Hess, Trustco or any business stays open on Brandywine is a big mystery. Don't blame the police-blame the criminals that have infested that area.

Ditto that, the Schenectady Cops I have seen have never asked for anything free and are always willing to pay for what they buy.

Interestingly -- there was a convent in that neighborhood and for many years it was a place of peace, solace and God's work.

Maybe you and DV can expand your DEM shrine there. Sure it's currently off the tax rolls and you'll probably get an economic grant for industrial-sized candles.

It can be part of the pretend Renaissance you're dreaming about.
