Apparently, you just refuse to understand that the STATE ( theNew York State Office of Military Affairs)  HAS ALREADY DECIDED THAT THE ARMORY IS NO LONGER ADEQUATE/APPROPRIATE FOR USE AS A MILITARY TRAINING FACILITY.  If it NO LONGER adequate/appropriate for the state national guard unit(s) to use .. who (other than a nayboob) would believe for a moment that it is adequate and appropriate for a US ARMY RESERVE CENTER.

I really wish you would actually read what I write before making a comment.

My last post said NOTHING about the Armory, but rather, about the hundreds of empty/vacant buildings all over the City and County of Schenectady. The Downtown Trustco comes to mind, the delapitated Grossmans on Erie, the empty lot Marcellas left behind, practically all of State Street near the Hill but those are just SOME of the areas in the City. The County has many, many more.

Wouldn't this have been an AWESOME location where the ALCO condos are to be? It's shovel ready and would have brought jobs to the City.

But then, the City planner and Metroplex would rather give property away .....

No -- the ALCO project is an awesome place for condos and commercial offices & retail --- the other buildings that you mentioned don't seem appropriate or adequate for a Army Reserve Center.  Besides, Niskayuna is a part of Schenectady County -- and a good project for Niskayuna is good for ALL of Schenectady County.

Right DV, there are no vacant buildings in the County or City which could use the $20 million...let's build something new because the area is currently jam packed.

This could have been an opportunity to fill in the HUGE vacancies throughout the County...but why use money wisely. You probably still believe that 'grant' money doesn't involve taxpayers money.

Alco is simply a connected developer getting rich off of Metroplex handouts and receiving taxbreaks which he is not entitled to.... to build condos which are not needed in a City with a high vacancy rate.

Rachel...there is no rhyme or reason on why the city leaders or metroplex do what they do! They have totally neglected the residents of the city and have been for years. These are all political and personal gain moves made by those in control. It says that it will create 200 jobs 'while it is being built'............then what???

Where have the local reservists been going all this time?

Weren't they located on the corner across from the Post Office, near City Hall? I'm sure they were down there for years!

Totally wrong. The DEMS control every elected office. Who ever told you that was thinking 20 years ago. This has nothing to do about local politics or economic stimulus. Hillside Avenue is in the middle of a residential neighborhood. All this will do is put more construction traffic on that street and further devalue homes. The new Armory should be Downtown. Then it might create some weekend business with reservists. Another whiff for Death Ray and his Metrograft stooges. They also totally struck out again with the State which is helping Fulton County. Troy, Albany but NOTHING for Schenectady.

Again -- you folks should get your FACTS straight first ---- the facility on Jay Street was A RECRUITING OFFICE  --- the facility to be built is a TRAINING CENTER for the Army Reserve.

Are you folks really as stupid as you come across as being ????

I simply asked the question DV, I didn't state a fact. But thank you for being such an a** in answering.

Metroplex should have done their job and cleared the ALCO site for this $20 million dollar project. Instead of wasting and sinking taxpayer money for useless condos, this is the type of project which would have brought JOBS and OPPORTUNITY to a failing City.

Even the military recruiting office had to leave Downtown. No place for recruiting. ALCO would be a great site for the Reserve Center. The condo project is as moronic as the dead enders that still support it. The DEMS mailed out a picture of a mound of s*** down at Alco cheering that they cleaned up the site. These idiots knocked down old buildings, cut trees and piled dirt sky high. Now what? Where's the national retailer? lol. Condos between a atomic reactor and steel plant with the highest taxes in the entire region.

The ALCO site is being cleared for another project -- condos, offices and shops -- get over it and move on with your life.   Stewing in your anger just because you and your ilk didn't get your way over the ALCO site .. is only harming your own health.   Those of us who are happy to see the condos, offices and shops being built along the river --- just don't care to hear your whining anymore.
