Get your shop on in Downtown Schenectady December 1, 2011 at 10:16 am by Sue Rock
Downtown Schenectady wants you to shop local! As a thank you, 2011 Holiday Shopping Passes are available at participating downtown shops and businesses.
Pick up your card, and have it stamped each time you make a purchase at a participating shop or restaurant. Once you’ve spent $150, drop the completed card off at a any participating business to be entered to win one of two prizes:
Downtown shopping spree worth $250 Two tickets to Shrek: The Musical at Proctors
wow, isn't that generous of Phil ... get you drunk on $150 worth of cheap bear, crappy chicken wings, and stuffed on burritos. Aside from Rudnick's, there's so little retail downtown, your chances are really good!
Hey....don't knock it...........you can get a lot of beer for $250 bucks.

How about I get a stamp every time I pay my property taxes? Then I get a one day shopping spree in a downtown business that gets a property exemption, and I get a discount equivalent to the percentage of the tax exemption of that business. I would go to Bombers Burrito since they would be giving me MORE money back than I paid for the beer I order.
I congratulate Proctors and ALL of the merchants Downtown -- Schenectady's Heart is the Downtown and people are flocking from hundreds of miles around to get there and spend money! CHEERS!

Really?
If it was such a popular place, then WHY are home values plummeting BIG TIME ??????
Why are the property & school taxes going up BIG TIME ????
I guess you think 40 cents tax on a beer or burrito will bring in enough money to refund the homeowners for all the taxes they pay on the downtown properties?
Shopping spree? For WHAT? Clothes? Where? Jewelry? Where? Computers? Where? China, silverware, and crystal? Where? Men's suits, women's dresses and children's clothes? Where?
This is obviously an utterly DESPERATE attempt to make it seem like the merchants are "giving back" to the community. Each may have only contributed $25 which comes no where near what STEAL from the financially struggling homeonwers.
By the way, the people of Schenectady would prefer to be able to buy NECESSITIES dictated by the socialists in city hall - like house numbers at a certain height.
Tell us what the well-heeled businesses downtown are going for the taxpayers, and what are they donating to the organizations that help the poor. Where were the business people and elected and the dept heads for Thanksgiving? The guv and his family were serving meals for the poor. Even the newly elected guy in Troy was doing volunteer work on Thanksgiving. But those in Schenectady that tax the heck out of the residents (and their tenants) as well as the rich downtown who have their taxes paid by the financially struggling homeowners---they were NO WHERE to be found! No volunteering - not even for one measly hour -- at the Concern for the Hungry. Mo no volunteering at all at the Bethesda House dinner, nothing at the city mission, not even at Equinox. All those downtown business people and the socialists in city hall should hang their head in shame. And fat Morris who REFUSES to pay taxes for his lavish theater and then forcing the homeowners to pay for his two STAR exemptions - one of which he gets ILLEGALLY, he should really provide free to each and every person who pays his taxes and his fat salary
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
Sounds like a great promotion. You can always count on Phil to have great ideas that draw people INTO Downtown Schenectady. He is a blessing and an asset to our community.

He's a big asset alright. Of course he had nothing to do with this. Another DSIC special. Can you pick up a recycled tree grated down there? How about a mop? For decent shoes go to Saratoga or Colonie Center. Downtown ain't got none.
Philip Morris did not bring Proctor's to downtown. Downtown does not have more merchants now than in the 70's. There were more places to shop downtown before metroplex. This is fact, I see people on here repeatedly stating otherwise, but this is not something that changes because someone has an opinion about it.

EXACTLY!! Proctor's was doing better with the previous CEO. Less debt, no County handouts, not "investing" in money losing road shows, not taking the whole block off the tax rolls. It's the old Joseph Goebbels repeat the lie often enough and some fools will believe it. Like McCarthy creating 5,000 jobs when the whole County actually lost 1,700+ jobs.
We could really improve Schenectady by giving all the nayboobs a one-way bus ticket to Camp Gitmo.

No answer so he calls people names. Watch. He'll come back again later with the same old crap about Morris and the dems and downtown experiencing a rebirth. He's repeatedly tried to give Morris undeserved credit. "The man who had Proctor's air-conditioned" isn't much of an achievement.
Speaking of Fat Morris, I asked a Proctor's honcho why the Mayoral debate wasn't in the main theater since there were many trying to get in the Black Box. The answer; "that's used to house Morris' ego".
