It is really very simple    ------>>>>  the people who come INTO the county to see shows at Proctor's spend money at local restaurants and shops --- and pay sales tax on those purchases.

Besides, the new stage at Proctor's allows bigger shows -- Broadway class shows -- to be staged there.  It is well worth the $9 million INVESTMENT.

Explain HOW the $9 mill is a good investment when it results in home values plummeting even more?    Explain HOW it's an investment when no one wants to move into the city?:   Explain HOW it's an investment when people can't sell their homes?   Exp-lain HOW it's an investment when it even more people want to flee the city>   Explain HOW it's an investment when it's CEO takes is fat taxpayer subsidized salary flees the city and then makes the financially struggling homeowners pay for part of his school taxes by his illegally getting two STAR exemptions?

And I guess you think 8 cents on an order of fries at BK, or 40 cents on a burrito or beer, outweighs the record LOSSES in taxes from the DRASTICALLY PLUMMETING property values, yes?

And again, DV, people who come into the county to make major purchases DO NOT, and I repeat DO NOT PAY SALES TAXES TO Schenectady Co.   They p;ay to the county in which they live----THAT is the law

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.
Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and
speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

The thing is that we are effectively tapped out at the amount of sales tax the city receives.  When a city property is taken off the tax rolls by metroplex and then generates sales tax it subsidizes the county. This would help lower the county portion of the tax bill but then they use it up on things like a new retirement building. We see no net relief.  The countys tax base is growing less than the expenses.  The city's real tax base is growing way slower than its expenses.  All the big time "growth" in the city have been tax exempt businesses or buildings that are leased by the county. The office space isn't filling.  The second rail addition between Albany and Schenectady is the key.  Everything/everyone would benefit.

Don't waste time asking the sock puppets anything. They have no answers. Their game is attacking the messengers while pretending all is well. It ain't and most people are fully aware of that. Vince Riggi {who spent a million dollars to win his seat} says hello! Write another riveting column on bull fighting bull s***** -lol.
