In response to this

Are people supposed to obey the laws when those who enforce them break them as well. I was just coming back from the store when I seen a police car cruise right through a red light, he then gets to the next light and proceeds to do the same thing, no lights, no siren. This is very common in Schenectady, I witnessed this above the law attitude probably well over a dozen times in the last few years.

I'm sure we all seen it before, a cop pulls to a red light then turns on his light and passes through only to turn them off on the other side and continue on his merry way. Once I watched a cop do this and then pull into Dunkin Donuts (yeah I know ). Personally I probably wouldn't even have paid attention if it wasn't for a near miss about 5 years ago. I was coming back from Walmarts when a cop flew through a red light, again no lights or siren, and almost killed me. If I was 1 sec slower he would have T-boned my car and I truly believe I would have been killed judging by the speed he was going. He slammed on his breaks only after he was in the middle of the road and came to a dead stop. He knew he almost fcked up big time for being in a rush to get back to the station. Since I stopped as well I started yelling some pretty foul language at him (not the smartest move) but he didn't do nothing. He then turned on his lights and proceeded about 10 feet before turning them off again.

I guess my point is how do we expect to become a safer society when those we should look up to break the laws.

Yes it happens all the time. And its not when they are on a call it's usually when they are heading back to the station. Police should obey the traffic laws just like we do.
In what Henry observed, just what if a pedestrian was crossing and hit?. You can be dam sure that the cop would insist he had lights and siren on.

Shhhhhh, "Visitor" is monitoring while being paid by the City or County. The makings of a communist-style "enemies list" has to be compiled somehow by the radical governmentalists who control our town, state and country. "Brass" officers in suits will do it for them on our dime.

Police, politicians, and the like feel they are above the law....how many times has the law been in a crisis

and by the time justice can be served....it is shoved under the rug, time off WITH PAY,and investigate.

recently a rash of DWI's with police,  off duty of course.....DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE does not apply to them.

The integrity of the police dept has been breached..and the top officials seem to drag their heels in weeding

out those lawmen who cannot protect and serve with integrity.  The Gazette so called "criminal" is a classic

example of how things got turned around when a mistake was made....tragic for that mentally ill person.

Uniforms can be a coverup and intimidation is the word.....Shaved heads ...stands for a brotherhood?

I do respect the law and have observed it all my life....but not because of a "uniform" because that was the

way I was raised....A badge and a uniform is not wlays a perfect fit for a role model.

Lastly, it is a dangerous career these days...that may explain a lot....but there should be no excuses...

God bless those in uniform and putting their lives on the line everyday.....(I had to say that, out of respect)

GrahamBonnet and MobileTerminal have problems with law enforcement -- probably because they are involved in some illegal, scandalous behavior --- my  guess is that it has to with young barnyard animals.

Haha I could care less if he was a cop or not, I hope some cops do read this post and understand we keep an eye on them to. I was raised to respect cops probably like most of us here, once I grew up I learned quick that they must earn that respect through their actions not just because they wear a badge. I just hate the double standard, if I were to run 2 red lights in a row I would probably have my license suspended and be fined out the a$$.

You are absolutely right.

The timid are coming out of the woodwork.....

I have seen 'some' cops....not many, put their flashing lights on just to go through a red light and then turn them off. I have seen 'many' on their cell phones while driving and using their on board lap tops for more then routine checks. Again....not all of them.

I feel sorry for some of the idealistic young cops who have recently joined the force. IMO, standing up for "business as usual" is more anti-cop than wanting to see SPD become an organization anyone could be proud to work for. I wouldn't want a cop's job for myself. I don't think people realize the amount of crap a good cop has to put up with on the job, FROM THE OTHER COPS.
