Congratulations to the entire City and County Democratic Party for its pro-growth policy and making Schenectady one of the fastest growing cities in America and one of the most attractive places for quality of life. Our Mayor and other members of the "Working Together" Team have scored AGAIN -- DESPITE the nattering and constant tearing down that the Naybobs of Negativity spout off with all day with!

Growth is school enrollment IS NOT a bad thing.   It is a demographic trend.  Whether it will have positive or negative consequences or some combination of positive and negative consequences -- is yet to be seen.

This is more bad news for the oppressed City taxpayers. The 3 Counties with higher growth are all wealthy suburban counties. Schenectady continues to be a new Upstate home for NYC DSS clients. Keep the implosion going SMHA and County DSS. An addition to the DSS will be needed. Current site overcrowded. Only a complete DEM moron would cheer this news.

Only a Republican stooge and blind follower of the Tea Party/Nayboob movement would automatically jump to a negative conclusion.

Here's your theory proven:

Shen High School: Total Students 2,977 : Total Students on Free/Reduced Lunches 259

Saratoga High School: Total Students 2,176 : Total Students on Free/Reduced Lunches 281

Schenectady High: Total Students 2,958: Total Students on Free/Reduced Lunches 1,454

All found on the website http://findgoodschool.com

Really couldn't fathom why a parent would intentionally place their child in one of the most persistently dangerous school in New York....but I guess free lunch helps....

It is obvious by the above post that the NNTPers & Tea Partiers/Republicans/nayboobs are prejudiced against minorities and poor people.   The NNTP bigots are coming out of the woodwork on this website.

Schenectady County has lost over $1,700+ jobs in the last 8 years.

The Schenectady High School has one of the poorest graduation rates and is one of the most persistently dangerous schools in the State.

Why would someone move into the City? There are no jobs and an academically failing school system. You tell me DV....what middle class family is going to pay a mortgage, triple property and school taxes in order to send their children to a poor school system?

If Schenectady was doing so great there wouldn't be so many kids in school on the free/reduced lunch program. People living in Schenectady would have good paying jobs and be able to pay for their families needs but instead the only one who are getting rich are Morris, the connected developers, and those with lob jobs created by those in control of the city.

My point being, when the whole state is shrinking in enrollment and 2 out of the three tricity areas is shrinking.  Isn't it weird that we in Schenectady are rising?

One reason ONLY-easy DSS benefits. Overwhelmed county workers that never perform home inspections. When was the last sweep of phony DSS recipients in this County? The word is out in NYC-go up to hickville and have a free lunch. The idiots up there have a welcome mat and voter registration form waiting. As far as the schools wait until the great current superintendent retires. He's a former CEO who cut millions from the bloated Ely's budget. Then you will see what a renaissance you really have.

The reason for the increase in school attendance is due to the influx of new welfare recipients from other parts of the state and NYC because of the great welfare benefits here.
