Fake Catholics smell similar to Jesus worshiping Christians. |

If you're talking about Joe Suhrada, owner of Uncle Sam's, you're 100% wrong, as usual.
Joe started a candy business in Clifton Park in like 1989 - then bought Uncle Sam's from the previous owner in 1992. It was never "handed" to him, he bought it himself. His father (rest his soul) was a civil servant (worked at the Watervliet Arsenal I believe) for nearly 40 years (his obituary is posted here someplace I believe) - and his mother was just that, a stay at home mom. Neither of his parents EVER owned a candy business, it was entirely Joe's operation, with his own money, like 5-6 years out of High School.
So, unlike you Rhonda, Joe has started businesses, hired employees, paid federal taxes on many levels and doesn't rely on his parents or other rich relatives to live on and subsidize a lifestyle like you're accustomed to.
Get your FACTS straight - for a change.
Anyone who has lived in schenectady county for decades knows Uncle Sam's history. And everyone KNOWS this is all the truth!!! Like many other fine small businesses that have been successful without taxpayer's money to prop them up. Thanks for the run down MT! I do wish the same success for cornells. Their food is great! Perhaps they should consider another location. They too have been a victim to robberies. |

Thank God for real job creators and small business leaders like Mr. Suhrada. Anyone else would have fled the over taxed, crime ridden, socialist City years ago. Not only does he stay but he plows nearby City streets because the incompetent DEM morons can't afford proper snow removal. They are too busy not solving the pit bull and abandoned house issues. We need more Mr. Suhrada's and less cheer leaders who promote uneducated incompetents to public office. |

We stopped at Krause's to buy some treats for the younger relatives --- what an AWESOME display of exceptionally fine products Krause's has. I haven't eaten candy in years -- except for a small piece of Pepper Pig once a year .... which reminds me .. it is time to take a drive to Saratoga Sweets -- another AWESOME candy store. |

That's why Uncle Sam's wins BEST OF every year? Judging from the lines at Uncle Sam's your patronage is not missed. Try the Christmas Jelly Belly Mix only at Uncle Sam's. The best candy store in Upstate New York. Take any food recommendations from DVR/SG/GG/SB who still goes to horrible Petta's with a ton of salt. |

Kinda funny how a self proclaimed historian can be 100% wrong and/or deliberately lies about selective historical facts. |

I actually checked and found out this is true. The other guy is telling more tall tales, as usual. Took an old Schenectady institution that was once thriving but had gone defunct, and reopened it on his lonesome, after having two other candy shops in Latham and Clifton Park. There have been numerous stories printed in the paper over the years about it. DVOR is spinning lies from his democrapic playbook again, or confusing JS with some other local business people who run various shops or restaurants and such and stepped in after the parent handed it off. I have personally have no problem with that with folks getting the parent's business- more power to them! But, good second generation businessmen like Mike Petta or the younger Mallozzis might take exception to comments like that Ron Severson made, so someone should ask DVOR to be more kind and generous (and less demeaning) to folks who inherited or took over a going concern from a parent. I think he should apologize to them. It takes gumption to run ANY business in New York and Schenectady. However, taking one from nothing or less than nothing and making it a success is no small feat. |

gumption is a GREAT word.....I dont own a business but respect those that do......as for the political machine that can shred a small business because of the elected.....DIRTY DIRTY SHAME..... |

This is all part of the one party DEM plan to crush all opposition. It failed miserably in the City where voters have had enough of the DEM slimy mailers, sign stealing and idiotic robo calls. And an occasional shot gun blast through the window. Now independent businesses will be targeted. Just like their Occupy Movement on Black Friday this will totally backfire. Everyone should support all local businesses. Buy here-support our great local businesses-not crony socialists. |

The Schenectady County Leg, City 'leaders' and especially Metroplex are creating the Boss Tweed era all over again. Patronage, pay-to-play, taxpayer money never repaid (thank you Clinton's Ditch - $31K 'forgiven') and the raping of the taxpayers is so common, the corruption is blatant. Tearing down a real business like Uncle Sam's is done because it's not a part of Tammany Hall -it's not a politically owned and run establishment - it's a REAL business with REAL profits and a REAL asset to the community. |

As long as we live in a free country where people are free to choose which businesses they will patronize, I will patronize Krause's and Saratoga Sweets when making our annual purchase of candies and sweets to give as gifts at Christmas.
Others are free to patronize other businesses - but why settle for less than the absolute best products and genuinely friendly and pleasant customer service ?????????????????????? |
