If the state doesnt do a complete forensic accounting on this business from 2004 to present then we are in even bigger trouble than I thought. How can they go that behind in Federal and State taxes while at the same time remaining current on the Metroplex payments. How mu busch of the Metroplex Grant and Loans money went to pay obligations on the Van Vranken Property. How much of it went to pay the "Owners/Officers" of Cornell's. Are they up to date on their Personal Income Taxes?????!?!?!? Probably not. Did Metroplex pull a credit report and background check on these owners before doing the Little Italy deal. I dont think so.
In order to set up a payment plan, the business must show the ability. If it is true that business is good and they always had the ability to pay but didnt then they should get nothing.
This deal smells as bad if not worse than the Proctors one. |

There is nothing unusual here. Everything Metrograft does stinks to high heaven. No different from Van Dyke I, Van Dyke II, The Big Hose, Silver Diner, Movie House, Key Hall etc. They managed to limp it past Election Day which was the plan. The rape of the County taxpayers continues. Plans are already in motion. |

Except when Hugh Farley wants to take credit for Metroplex when he is running for reelection --- then the old goat and all of his nayboob supporters say how wonderful Metroplex is .. and how we should offer up sacrifices of thanksgiving that Farley has come down from his throne in the "garden of the political gods" to lower himself to represent us. |

Glad to see. Been tryig to figure out if I was one of the "nayboobs." Guess this means I can consider myself out of the group. There is NOTHING good going on at the local, state or federal levels, and I will NEVER say how good the Metroplex is, as it's really just another layer of wasteful spending and taxation, and not even something that can be voted in or out. In fact, I am one of those (not enough, I guess) that decided that I was not voting for a single incumbent in the last state elections, figuring that the others, if they won, would at least help the county...by leaving their local posts. The Schenectady Metroplex is an outright failure, should not get additional funding, and should in fact, be immediately disbanded, and any remaining funds should go to reducing the horrendous burden of taxes that we have to hand over and thank those in power that they know how to spend our money better than we do. |

If it were not for the Democrats who were elected just a few short years ago -- ending the Republican malfeasance -- the City and County would be dire straights and nowhere near where we are now in the process of a Renaissance...... This is as good as it gets..... A star team made up of Mr. Gillen, Mr. Petta, Mr. Hughes and the irreplaceable Judith Dagostino as Honorable Chair of the Legislature. Thank God for them and may He smite the Nattering Nayboobs of Negativity.. |

I don't understand how so many people who really seem like they should know better manage to create a mess like this. I suspect it has to do with theavailability of free government money, you know, the kind that doesn't come from some taxpayer's pocket somewhere. |

I believe that they should work out something to pay their back taxes and hopefully remain in business for many years to come. |

The Federal lien is based on INCOME taxes not paid -- a good business person should SET ASIDE a percentage of their GROSS INCOME to be used to pay their income tax.
The same with state income tax and sales tax - the debt is NOT incurred unless one actually MAKES A SALE -- which in a restaurant is where income comes from. If one was doing proper accounting, one would SET ASIDE a percentage of GROSS INCOME to cover state income and state/local sales tax due.
WRONG again, naturally. IF someone had ever created a job (DVOR can't even create for himself. let alone others) they would know that in all likelihood FTL is on SS/MC and income tax withholdings of employee salaries. So in all likelihood they withheld a portion of the paychecks and didn't submit them in full on the 941s. That is what happens when cash flow is poor for struggling businesses. They know they can continue to operate if they don't pay this on time unlike when they don't pay their employees, National Greed, and first- the purveyors. But one would actually not be on the tit to understand how this works in practice. Some book from some college doesn't really make for an education. My own experience is that over the 23 years or so I have been a businessman, I have never not paid that withholding. I have paid that 270 or so quarters on time. I have conversely paid all of my other taxes in full and timely with the exception of a property tax payment that came back in the mail because the stamp rubbed off and got there a few days latter than it should have, about 12 years ago. And I am no millionaire, just on top of what I am SUPPOSED to do. I wish everyone was able to do what they are SUPPOSED to do as part of the societal contract. But then again, I am in not part of the political special class. Of course when I stumble some day, the Daily Rag will print it as gospel on page one, since I am a conservative- Republican. A democratic hack gets a pass. |

Can't Metroplex find a NEW Little Italy to move them to, and give them millions in loans at 0%, a new building with no property tax, and some facade grants? They should have threatened to move their business out of the County, that seems to be a good enough reason to give away tax money to millionaires that can afford to pay for their own buildings. Notice that Joe S. said "in all likelihood" it because ... while it could be that the lien was from Social Secuirty and other federal with-holdings from EMPLOYEES wages -- he doesn't know for sure ... AND it could be that I was - IN FACT - correct because a lien can be placed for FAILURE TO PAY FEDERAL INCOME TAX, too. Joe S never created a business -- his parents did and he was handed it on a silver platter. And Joe S. is no longer part of the political special class because the voters got wise to his nasty lying ways. |

Will probably end up in the Pizza Kings old plot/building or at the Parker Inn. |

I think little Italies should have Italians living there. When are we going to recognize Crane Street as Little Bronx? Would it draw tourists, do you think? |

Quoted from 147
I smell a "facade grant" coming up soon
I smell a" WIN-WIN" for the taxpayers/public at large. These plans always seem to incorpate this oft used phrase. |

Joe S never created a business -- his parents did and he was handed it on a silver platter.
If you're talking about Joe Suhrada, owner of Uncle Sam's, you're 100% wrong, as usual. Joe started a candy business in Clifton Park in like 1989 - then bought Uncle Sam's from the previous owner in 1992. It was never "handed" to him, he bought it himself. His father (rest his soul) was a civil servant (worked at the Watervliet Arsenal I believe) for nearly 40 years (his obituary is posted here someplace I believe) - and his mother was just that, a stay at home mom. Neither of his parents EVER owned a candy business, it was entirely Joe's operation, with his own money, like 5-6 years out of High School. So, unlike you Rhonda, Joe has started businesses, hired employees, paid federal taxes on many levels and doesn't rely on his parents or other rich relatives to live on and subsidize a lifestyle like you're accustomed to. Get your FACTS straight - for a change. |
