City's traffic police moving
Schenectady's leader questions effectiveness of Albany Street site

By PAUL NELSON, Staff writer
Published 09:06 p.m., Friday, November 25, 2011

SCHENECTADY — The police department's traffic enforcement division is moving to City Hall from a nondescript building the city plans to put up for sale, ending what Acting Mayor Gary McCarthy blasted as a "flawed" crime-fighting strategy.

He explained Friday that staffing the building at the corner of Albany and Craig streets was supposed to be a deterrent to crime in the city's Hamilton Hill area.

"The parking department does not do it: You need uniformed police officers on the street," McCarthy said......................>>>>..................>>>>..............Read more: http://www.timesunion.com/local/article/City-s-traffic-police-moving-2293121.php#ixzz1eoameUXL

The civilian staff also will be cross-trained to handle tax liens — which are now being done in-house — and other fee-collection duties, said McCarthy. He said the city has some prospective buyers for the soon-to-be vacated two-story building and are hoping to sell it for between $40,000 and $100,000.

how F'EN interesting.....a police state to do what the leaders lack in back bone and leadership skills.....they hire the bully to work for them on the playground.....all the while they stay in their own gang pushing around all the
other 'kids'.....

WTF.....homeland security sh!t? patriot act sh!t?

so....does NYS jail debtors?

I think McCarthy and friends should purchase the building and live there......

Well, you know if Hull wins, McCarthy's last ditch effort will be to move the Mayor Hull and Vince Riggi's offices to this Albany Street location.

Another payback move for votes most likely. I'm sure the traffic division has some of his family members/close friends/DEM hopefuls employed there.

Another City building for sale no one wants. Instead of making this a Hamilton Hill SPD branch the joke acting Mayor pulls up a white flag. Like he did on the pit bull and gang issues.

Someone needs to inform Mr. Riggi that individual city council members do NOT have an office in city hall.

The government should not be in the real estate business. imo.
If any of these properties, located in the city, were of any value what so ever, the private sector would be buying them and flipping them for profit. And since the private sector isn't..............

I agree that something should be done about these vacant properties. But for the government to become a real estate agent isn't the answer. Ask any private real estate agent and they will tell you that it is almost impossible to sell a home in the city because of the high taxes and fees. Couple that with the crime, a substandard school system, no jobs and it's failing infrastructure, it's a lose/lose situation. They need to cut spending and start lowering taxes drastically. They need to get a handle on the crime and they clearly need to lower the welfare benefits and also audit it.

The government's solution of being in the real estate business is yet another example of government propping up a false economic environment!! If the private sector isn't doing it......then the area is obviously not worth it.

The joke acting Mayor's way to multi-task. No one pays Schenectady traffic tickets so have them chase the many that can't afford DEM record taxation. Three weeks after Election Day the imploding together morons close the only police presence on the Hill. Since Election Day the DEM morons have voted to knock down a historic landmark, announced they are fleeing Ham Hill and are busy hiring 22 more lobs for the s*** plant.  At the same time every neighboring City lays off and cuts non vital services.

Well it is apparent that this 'only police presence' didn't fix the 'Hill' problems. Now they have to police TWO 'Hills'. Mt. Pleasant and Hamilton Hills!! They couldn't help one hill......they ain't gonna help TWO!! No one even drives through those sections of schenectady anymore except the folks who reside and sell and buy drugs there.

How does a government body have "some prospective buyers" for a particular building? I'm pretty sure surplus property is supposed to be appraised and
then bids are accepted from the general public. Is this some sort of "deal" or is it that there are no "prospective buyers"?
They've gone from acting as planners to acting as realtors. How about doing your jobs that you have, or sort of have? Do they even know what their jobs are?

Like they had prospective buyers for the MT P fire house, Robinson's, The Silver Diner and the Armory? Constant DEM lie mode. Constant screw the taxpayer mode. More than 2 ghettos in the City. Check out lower Eastern, lower Broadway and Foster Avenue. Taxpayers are taking any offer to get the hell out before the assessor. The entire City will look like Camden within 4 years.

Interesting you mention Camden, as Camden was a city in trouble made a thousand times worse by government policies of sacrificing one place for useas a toilet to keep other areas nice.

Also called working together! It makes no sense to reduce police presence on Albany Street. There used to be a business district down there. Now look at it. Because of the DEM morons over taxation one boarded up store after another. Property has no value. Everything has been put Downtown. McCarthy is a total fiscal incompetent. This is about having more people on tax defaults and confiscatory City takings.

So McCarthy has buyers lined up what a bunch of BS.

Interesting the price range quoted. If sold for 40 thousand this building which is in a "business" district, two stories witll be assessed cheaper than my one story home.
