GLENVILLE New ambulance station will speed response BY MICHAEL GOOT Gazette Reporter Reach Gazette reporter Michael Goot at 395-3105 or mgoot@dailygazette.net.
Faster response is the goal of Mohawk Ambulance as it builds a new station in Glenville. The Schenectady-based ambulance company received approval last week from the town Planning and Zoning Commission to renovate a former hair salon at 176 Freemans Bridge Road into a two-bay station with space for four ambulances. There would also be bunk rooms, a small training room for eight to 10 people, offi ce space and bathrooms. Construction has already started on the project. “They’re renovating that building as we speak. They probably started Tuesday, after the meeting,” said Mike Burns, town planner. Mohawk Ambulance officials said they wanted to establish the facility in Glenville because they receive 2,700 to 2,800 calls a year in the town and the number is increasing, which they attributed to changing demographics. They estimated that three to four minutes could be trimmed from response time from the new facility. The company also has locations at Central Avenue and Quail Street in Albany and on River Street and Brick Church Road in Troy. The Glenville property had been home to Envy Salon but was sold at auction. Mohawk Ambulance will use the existing footprint of the building, with just some modifications to put in the large bay doors and more asphalt in front of the property. It is also installing landscaping to beautify the site, which is next to the Rick DiCresce used car dealership and across from Mohawk Honda. ........................>>>>....................>>>>.........................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01203&AppName=1

This can't be true, Mohawk Ambulance is renovating a building for a new station and they're not creating a tax district or floating a bond that the taxpayers have to pay for. |
