I think I agree with Senders as to why these cops pulled their guns. This was not a routine traffic stop because cops in Schenectady do not routinely do traffic stops. Most people do not know that u-turns are even illegal. I have seen u-turns performed right in front of cops in this city, along with other traffic violations.
I believe, as an armchair quarterback, and as a citizen paying for a sometimes inept police force, and also as an American with a right to freely expressmy opinions about my government, that these people were stopped in the first place because a car full of black people getting lost in an unfamiliar area
looks exactly like a car full of drug dealers from downstate, acting suspiciously, to a cop. There. I said it. Driving while black is not an actual crime, sothe people in this vehicle may very well have resented being told to exit the vehicle. How to stop this situation from occurring? Do something about the
giant poverty industry in Schenectady which facilitates the drug trade, IMO.

Bingo!  I wasn't willing to go there.  I was being called armchair quarterback because I guess some people think if I knew it was 3 BLACK people acting suspicious, I would have pulled my gun too.  I'll re-phase one of my last posts, don't be BLACK and drop your wallet during a traffic stop, it could get you killed.

Reaching for a wallet did get Amadou Diallo killed. Black people suffer the most from the establishment of these high crime zones, because we don't know what to do with these areas after they get too big and too dangerous. We should've seen it coming. Downstate farmed out the problems, what did they think would happen up here?
Street cops can't fix this without a concentrated effort with other branches of government.

and the local personal leaders in the community, ie: churches/schools/clubs etc......

the highest pinnacle in Schenectady that even resembles respect/community/people is the city mission.....and those who say it's great aren't wrong, but they accept it as the pinnacle, don't bother
making an effort because I'll settle for this......

Does the dependency on the State (ie; welfare, food stamps, HEAP, section 8 ) create a natural rebellion against the state in those communities that are highly dependent on the State?  Kind of like teenage children rebelling against their parents when they are ready to leave the nest and become independent from their parents rules and financial support.  Is the State looked at as the parental figure in the communities where the family has broken down, and do those children that were raised through the welfare system see State authority as the controlling parent that makes the rules?   Just an observation.

unfortunately yes....in the hippie communes it's all about the common use of resources for 'free'.....that is why I say the government of today, regardless of the party is a perversion of the commune
from hippie to yuppie....what they didn't realize is the good done in the 60's felt so loveingly good that they wanted to 'own it' via rules/systems/regulations/laws....now they are trying to
protect their a$$es from the little 'feelgood monsters' they created......

prosperity isn't all about what you got....it's also about character prospering without pandering/condescending self promoting....

B GAGE, please join in and present your personal views. A variety of viewpoints adds to the understanding of issues that affect us all, doesn't it? I personally feel that a big reason that crime and quality of life have gotten so bad here is because people are afraid of speaking their minds for fear of being attacked for having the "wrong" opinions, so nobody talks about a problem until there is literally blood in the streets. If you have different ideas, please feel free to express them.

"Blood in the streets" equals business for the jails.  We jail more people than any other nation.  Crime is good for people working in prison industries.  Not just for good financially, but it also helps the ego.

See? This is what I'm talking about. Crime as part of the Poverty Industry? I hadn't considered that before. The new economy?
Discussion is good.

The cost of police and fire protection will get more expensive as each year passes until the city goes bankrupt.

Consolidation, county wide, the ace in the hole.   By the time it formally is proposed to the taxpayers, will be too late to turn back from it.   The mechanics of it will have already been worked out.   This is why you will have the solvent towns/cities paying for the bloated pensions/fiscal incompentence of Sch'dy etc.   Let the pain be spread out/dissipated.

Who is in charge of Finance and Accounting at the City?  While the Mayor and Council is responsible, there doesnt seem to be anyone in the backroom offices that is telling the story.  We are bleeding money.  The Balance Sheet will show it..  It doesnt account for all the future retirement liabilities.  Cusack and Company did an audit of the 2010 City of Schenectady Balance Sheet and stated that the city does not follow the same accounting principles as genarally accepted by the United States.  FOIL it and you will see.  Don't want to be accused of telling lies.

Look at the Budgets Proposaled and Adopted for the last 5 years.  The Proposed and Adopted arent even close to the Actuals.  The City Council doesnt even have a chance to get it right with these Proposed Budgets.
