Have you been to Saratoga lately? How about Ithaca? Downtowns are thriving Upstate but not in Schenectady. Can't even buy shoes over there. This is the typical DEM crap line-it's all bad-nothing unusual about Schenectady's implosion. Here's what is unusual, Schenectady County increased its sales tax to "revitalize" Downtown. This was supposed to help property taxes and create jobs. It did neither. It transferred $100 MILLION from poor shoppers to rich developers. Where's the outrage about helping the 1% fat cat DEM contributors? Silence-crickets chirping. It doesn't fit your narrow world view so you look the other way. First....a legitmate serious audit of the social services dept. There are many many many folks that don't even live in this county or state and are using friends/family addresses just to continue receiving schenectady county welfare/medicaid.

Second.....lower the welfare benefits.

Third.....sell the county nursing home

Forth....privatize garbage services.

Fifth....sell the do nothing garage  and contract out the vehicle maintenance to the private sector.

Sixth.....Cut 10% from every single department.

And this is just the tip of the iceberg!!

I like that, "can't buy shoes."     Can't help but think of that Barabara speaker at the POF at council meetings.   Periodically she says how she can't buy anything she needs downtown, no grocery store, she can't buy a mop (love that one), and no place to buy shoes.

She was pictured in the City Mission literature that we got in the mail recently (yeah, DV, addressed to us, it's mailed to people who volunteer and/or donate).

She was in the news, maybe the newspaper, I can't remember, she wants a job (to help make ends meet) and she doesn't even own a home paying taxes.   But are those millionaires downtown offering her a job.   I think the story said she'd be good as a Walmart greeter.  She's be good as a ticket taker in the government theaters.   She'd probably be wonderful handing out programs at Proctors (is fat Morris going to give the poor woman a job).

Yep, so where is the proof, the documentation of the statements made by the cheerleader(s) for increasing taxes on the financially struggling homeowners.?    Where is the proof, the documentation, DV?????    Huh???????    You have no proof because it's all lies

This is one of the root cause issues.  It is the nest.  Didn't Sharon Jordan and McCarthy work there?  Its another "State Authority" that has no one policing it.

Saratoga? Ithaca???  they are not Mohawk valley towns like Schenectady and the others that I mentioned.

Saratoga Ithaca and Schenectady all have one thing in common...
They are all College Towns.  Rich college kids  (Union college ain't cheap) spend their dollars in your town.  So add
that to the  list of advantages of Schenectady, over the rest of the Mohawk Valley.

Saratoga is not in Upstate New York? Ithaca is not in Upstate NY? Schenectady is unique as a DEM created implosion due to overtaxation.  Fulton and Montgomery Counties have not raised regressive sales tax to help rich contributors/developers.

As usual you are missing the point because the problem is your DEMS. There is no more Erie Canal. Maybe if the Mohawk Valley had a real Congressman not Taxin Tonko with his idiotic Bridge to Nowhere in Amsterdam there would be more economic opportunities. High taxes crush jobs, dreams, property values and revenue because people just flee instead of paying. When you have anti-business policies pretty soon you can't buy shoes nor a mop.

The REAL PROBLEM is that for about 40 years from 1960 through 2000 --- the Republicans controlled the Schenectady County Legislature -- and controlled the Governor's office --and controlled the State Senate -- and for most of that period we were represented by GOP State Legislators --- who allowed the city and county to slide into "rust belt status" and it was the REPUBLICANS who raised our county taxes to the record high levels.

Democrats have only taken control of the County Legislature the past 8 years -- and have LOWERED taxes 4 times --- and made a LOT of positive changes -- but it is going to take a number of years to grow out of the economic mega-depression that the Republicans brought our county.

Those ARE the facts --- the Nayboobs will squeal wildly like the ignorant piggies that they are -- but those ARE the irrefutable facts.

The union college kids spend $$$ on 'booze' in schenectady. They come to schenectady with all of their furnishings and personal items in a u-haul that were bought in 'their home town'. Mommy and daddy send them their necessities as needed. Don't get me wrong.....Union college is a top notch college nationwide. However, if anyone thinks that these college kids shop in schenectady county....then they don't really know any union college students. Schenectady is a slum to them.

More then that........How many union college students actually stay and buy homes and get jobs in schenectady county? Back in the 60's and 70's, many did! Not the case now!

The smart Union students go up to Saratoga to party. Especially the frat boys. Aside from Clinton's Ditch they avoid Downtown like the plague. The truth is finally out about the property value implosion under these City DEM idiots. Record taxes=resale price collapse. DVR reaction is hilarious. More blame the messenger for finally telling the truth about his DEM economic dolts. But don't fret McCarthy has his EMS fee ready to roll. On top of the huge charge for MAS. The DEMS have moved from dangerous to deadly.

You are correct about the college kids. They go to saratoga FIRST!!
And when kids and their parents come here from out of state to see the college....they are appalled at the city!!! They realize that the college is pristine....but the city is a dump!

That's why the college routes them via Upper Union Street. To miss the sights, sounds and smells of Vale. Harlem is experiencing renaissance while Vale keeps imploding. Here's the worst part almost half of the brain dead, senile City voters want to keep it exactly the same way. Got for sale signs?

If I were a parent looking at colleges for my kids,  I would run like Forrest Gump away from Schenectady and
Union college, based solely on this board's comments.

Complaints that no one moves here, followed by "why would anyone move here"...  It's like anti advertising.

The night of union's graduation last year, we were with some friends eating at cornells. There were many parents and graduates eating there also and some were sitting near us. The parents were apparently proud of their Union College graduates but both the parents and the graduates were glad to get outta schenectady!!!

TRUE STORY!!

The REAL PROBLEM is that for about 40 years from 1960 through 2000... and for most of that period we were represented by GOP State Legislators ---

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Tonko#New_York_Assembly_.281983-2007.29
New York Assembly (1983-2007)

Quoted Text
He represented the 105th District, which comprises Amsterdam in addition to Rotterdam, Princetown, Mohawk and Glen, and part of Schenectady.

Elections

Incumbent Democrat Assemblywoman Gail Shaffer resigned from her seat to become the New York Secretary of State.[3] Tonko ran for the seat in an April 1983 special election against Republican Eugene Hallock, and won with 54% of the vote.

Well, there's 19 years out of 40 already proven to be Democratically controlled in this district.

Well, there's 19 years out of 40 already proven to be Democratically controlled in this district.

Gail Schaeffer was the first Democrat to represent the 105th -- she defeated REPUBLICAN State assemlyman  Arlington Van Dyke who succeeded a REPUBLICAN Aseemblyman ..   THAT TAKES CARE OF  21 YEARS

Hugh Farley represented the 44th State Senate District from 1977 onward --  he succeeded a 1 or 2 term Democrat who had replaced a multi-term REPUBLICAN STATE SENATOR.

The NAYBOOBS haven't learned their lesson yet --- I know the FACTS .... all they know are lies and conspiracy theories.
