Schenectady has taken over troy's label as being the armpit of the capital district. HURRAY!! SUCCESS!!

Home values are the lowest in history. Pit bull alerts. Shooters. Corrupt police force. Patronage jobs. An overflowing dss building. Gangs. Highest taxes in the state. Millionaire businesses get taxpayer funding and awarded tax exemption. Blight. People walking away from their over taxed homes. Two Hamilton Hills. etc....

And this is priceless............

You hit the nail on the head.  In order to get better, we must face the facts.  Make sacrifices.  Working together to implement a shitty plan doesn't cut it.  Troy is improving because it reconized the benefits of downsizing. We are doing the opposite here in Schenectady.  The growth is fake.

Troy is improving because of the tens of millions of dollars of state money that State Senator Joe Bruno directed to Troy  -----------  we on the other hand are represented by an incompetent, self-serving, triple-dipper named Hugh Farley who has done ABSOLUTELY NOTHING  for us in 35 years.

An observation:

As an outsider to your local politics... there seems to be a lot of celebrating the BAD NEWS in your community, and
undermining any GOOD NEWS that happens.  It's as if some on this board want the community to fail, and applaud
its demise.   The aim seems to be for the opposition to fail, not for the home team to win. When local government
fails, the entire community usually pays the price.
Elected officials represent you, even if they are from an opposing party.  If you disagree with their methods or ideas,
then run for office yourself, or promote a candidate who does represent your views.

Rotterdam/Schenectady/Your Community...  has it's problems, but it also has its pluses.  Complaints about the Mall or
Proctors etc,  may be valid, but look around... most area towns would love to have those facilities in their community.

philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

Sadly that's because the town has been run with a "clique mentality" forever..........I remember as a lad of 9 or 10 my family going on a camping trip with our neighbor, who was a businessman and involved with local politics, and how my Mom and Dad came away totally disgusted when, on Saturday all the local "leaders" showed up for an "informal" meeting.........Supervisor, board members, committee people.....you get the picture...all yukking it up patting themselves on the back at the wonderful job they were doing.........to this day my father's words on the drive home sticks in my mind "what a bunch of jerks!! It's nothing but a clique!" We never socialized or were as close to our neighbors after that.

Nothing's changed.......what goes on in this town in my opinion has very little to do with policies or ideologies, but revolves around personalities......it's still a cliquish situation........no matter whether it's a Dem or Rep clique.........left or right clique......it's still a clique.......and it's just a microcosm of what goes on at the state and national levels.............cliques and personalities..............never the twain shall meet......compromise is a foreign language.......after living for nearly 65 years now I'm of the opinion it will never change........it's sad..........

Alias... I guess that I'm surprised at the "joy and enthusiasm" displayed by some posters at the failure of their own
local government.
When that ship sinks, they also drown, yet they are  cheer on the impending iceberg, while standing on the deck
of the Titanic.

Like I said Box.........cliques and personalities.........what saddens me more is that they know it and still go on with their petty battles.........it's like they've eliminated compromise and working for the people from their collective dictionaries.......

The past few years and no political knowledge has taught me to trust no one who is in the political arena.

Experience has taught me that they lie and spin the truth for their personal agenda.   A tough lesson learned

about the mechanics and who knows who, and who the favors and why the favors.....you can't run a good

government based on favors....Rotterdam is full of them....no compromise on real issues, but compromise when

it comes to jobs and most of these "favors" are not qualified....THE CLIQUE EXISTS IN THIS TOWN BIGTIME

and the community is not sinking with the Titanic...they all have life vests on waiting for the dingy to save

them and the Town....I call that survival at its best and hope for a better future...

Schenectadians are not the beneficiaries of their own tax dollars. The city, which always had proctors.....is far worse today then it ever was. Crime and poverty and vacant homes and blight and poor infrastructure is at an all time high historically. What happened to the grant that was suppose to clean up Hamilton Hill? What happened to  grant money for Erie blvd?

Just the wasted money from metroplex alone, would have lowered the taxes for the residents. Millions of dollars on failed projects!

2 blocks in schenectady doesn't constitute a success when the rest of the city is basically crumbling and the taxpayers are suffering!

So how does it get fixed?

It is refreshing, now the the election is over, that the MSM is finally telling it like it is. DVR's comment in the TU borders on insanity. Troy has a 2 party democracy and does not increase its regressive sales tax to give to DEM connected multi-millionaires.  Where's your outrage over that Boxy? Does that look good from Fulton County? The average sale price in Schenectady is UNDER $100,000. A home on Ardsley Rd went for $116,000 and was assessed over $170,000. Instant karma hits you in the face DEM morons, when you try to sell YOUR over taxed property. This includes City Council members and former County Legislators.

Reputation is what others think about you and for an individual - this may not mean much (thick skin, self-esteem, etc). Unfortunately, in Schenectady, the REPUTATION of the City can kill. News from our City involves shootings every weekend, hit and run, pit bull attacks, police without tasers...our City has MAJOR issues. Nothing I, nor anyone else on this board may post, will change this - it is what other see and hear about the City.

Then, we have the current 'leaders' who do little to nothing to address the: pit bulls, high crime, bad schools, high taxes. It perpetuates the stereotype that Schenectady is unsafe, violent and not a good place to live.

For too long, the leaders have been sugar-coating what is going on in the City and it is to the disadvantage of every taxpayer, every renter and every person in Schenectady. As the classic Monty Python line says "You're not fooling anyone you know!" The bad reputation is still alive in the minds of MANY!

The people who don't look at the corruption, turn a blind eye to the crime and believe that the City is in a Renaissance are more dangerous than ANYONE because they are condoning that which is bringing our City down. If by 'negative' you mean people finding the truth about Proctors, the truth about PILOTS, the truth about the gangs/crime/ reduced sentences for felons in the City...well call me negative. I'd rather be honest and face reality because I have too much invested in this City. I want problems solved, not ignored anymore.
