Tonight I met a friend for a movie at Movieland.

I have to tell ya, I was stunned with all the activity downtown.  There was a lot of activity around the theater, and for I think the first time, I had to actually park on the second level.  I was astounded thinking that maybe I was wrong and "Downtown was back".

No sooner did I get in the theater and see all the tweens, did I realize that a new Twilight movie opens tonight.

The movie I was in - Immortals - had maybe 30 people in it at the most.  (It seats like 285 I think the sign said)  This was the 7pm showing.  (Can't draw many conclusions from that - the movie was really kinda stupid, but I imagine at Crossgates there would have been a LOT more people in there)

Anyway - the good news is that there were police all over downtown.  I guess that's both good and bad though - because it means other areas of the city may suffer in terms of coverage.

MAY suffer? To the dictators, the city IS downtown. F everyone else.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

Bars are always hopping on a Friday night - especially in a college town. You want a real challenge, check out the other 6 nights a week.

Totally agree. Also, a high profile hit-and-run during the week could have prompted this.

As MT stated, try next weekend. The "Holiday Parade" won't be happening after Thanksgiving, the Twi-lumps won't be around and all will have forgotten about the tragedy downtown.

Hence, the problem with the City. It's all reaction...never proactive.

What's really needed is for board visitors to take photos of downtown while there.

I'd really be waiting to see the "huge throngs" of people that are there, walking about and shopping .... as ALLEGED by the cheerleader (under many names) for increasing taxes on the homeowners says is the case.   Yeah, like where do they shop?   ROFL    Does anyone really believe those high paid state workers are patronizing the head shops?     Well, actually, may be why the state is so screwed up.

For sure, the photo would show well dressed obvious working people shopping there.   Mostly would see in a picture the mental cases hanging out by the Bank of America, the other panhandlers.   Oh yeah, and there would be those living off the public dole (in SOME way) whose only social life would be to hang out downtown

Yup you beat me to it, Fridays and Saturdays is the only nights you see any real foot traffic downtown and like you said that is because of the students from Union college. Even then it is kinda lame considering the night life compared to downtown Albany or Saratoga, they make downtown Schenectady look like a ghost town even on their worst days.

There is no shopping Downtown. The unusual "activity" was for a all female comedy show at Proctor's. 99% saw the show and fled immediately afterward. The Bow Tie is a complete flop. Lowest ticket sales in the area. One person sells tickets, pops corn then runs to usher and project the movie. The best thing Downtown is the Green Market. This was started by a volunteer group and not Metrograft "planners". Below Erie is still like Beirut and Death Ray keeps lying about "national retailers" that are interested in his bigger foot print. He also thinks that a park by the bus station will stimulate "renaissance".

At a recent Metrograft meeting Death Ray stated that SCCC may build a SECOND dorm at Robinson's aka {Gillen's Gulch}. No reason to wait to see if the first dorm is successful. That's what a great salesman he is for Downtown. He's already thrown in the towel for any possible retail and wants to take another prime parcel permanently off the tax roll. No new governmental gin mill? Sharon Jordan's still warming a seat on this disgraceful Metrograft bored. She can do to Downtown what she did to public housing. And Death Ray can do to SCCC what he did to Downtown. Only in Schenectady County-too small for a County-too big for an insane asylum.

The Twighlight movie is being herald as the savior movie from all of the dying theaters. Hollywood hasn't come out with a decent movie in a few years. I don't like the twilight movies but the kids do. It's kinda like the harry potter movies.

The bow tie theater is dead most of the time.

Like Key Bank/Hall, Mercury's empty coffeehouse {which nets $50 on a good day} and 440 Arts/IOOF Temple! Soon to be demolished for another ice cube tray. The DEM morons flushed $100 MILLION on 2 blocks Downtown, while losing 2,000 jobs and imploding the tax base because of never ending PILOTS to the friends and family club. BFD one movie had 1/4 of the theater filled. It will take decades to get all of the DEM political pigs away from the taxpayer trough.
