Schalmont saves
$800G through
energy program

ROTTERDAM — The Schalmont Central School District has saved nearly $800,000 in energy costs in three years since contracting with a national energy conservation company.
School officials were presented with Energy Education’s Energy Pacesetter Award at Monday’s Board of Education meeting.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to be saving money on energy expenses despite rising fuel costs and an economic downturn,” said district Superintendent Valerie Kelsey.
“This is the result of people changing the way they use energy in our district so the savings may be redirected to other needs.”
The district’s energy specialist, Terri McCreadie, has been reminding staff to turn off classroom lights, close window blinds and shut down computers, printers, document cameras, projectors, powerstrips and other peripherals at the end of the day.
McCreadie regularly tracks energy consumption — including electricity, water, sewer, natural gas and fuel oil — using energyaccounting software.
In addition, as part of a capital project approved by voters in 2007, the district has replaced 52-year-old single pane windows, steam boilers and heating and ventilation systems with more effi cient models.

Great job saving $800K --- now we need to look at merging all 6 school districts in the county into a single school district so that we can save much more money.

Who says I don't ??????  And don't just keep repeating the lies that you and the other nayboobs post .. provide  ACTUAL PROOF that you know all about the financial arrangements within my family.

The FACT is that you and your fellow dickhead nayboobs don't know diddly squat about my personal affairs or the personal affairs of my family.

So why don't you try to intelligently discuss/debate the issues for a change.

We know how much your mamas make, we know they sponge off the public dole which renders them ineligible for STAR exemption, we know how much your two mommies's house is worth, we know you are not on the deed nor any Life Estate with you as beneficiary, and we know you are not an adult, you don't support yourself, you do not now nor ever have owned property and paid property taxes (by virtue of your total cluelessness of the distinction between tax levy, rate, and bill), you obviously don't buy much for yourself because you keep talking about the so called benefit to the county when Schenectady's homeowners foot the bill for the downtown business---by your claiming that the county makes out good with people from out of the county coming to make major purchases---when that is totally untrue----because YOU don't acknowledge the LAW where by people from outside Schenectady county who make purchase IN the county pay the sales tax to their own county and NOT to Schenectady county.

By all means consolidate all 6 school districts and have a huge school district that won't be able to get 30% of the students to graduate. Didn't you learn anything from the failed consolidation between Mont Pleasant and Linton, what a success story that was, not . Look at how much money it costs to run the district to end up with one of the worst districts in the state.

The benefits of consolidating the six school districts into one school district are obvious:

#1) saving a huge amount of money having 1 Superintendent, 1 Business Manager, 1 Central Administrative Office instead of 6 of each

#2) better utilization of ALL the EXISTING school buildings -- the classroom space in all of the existing school buildings should be enough to house the current and projected student population without having to borrow money to build additional classroom spaces

#3) Utilize all currently employed teachers and support staff -- if any reductions are necessary they could be done through attrition

Oh boy, Rhonda found out the school (which he isn't affiliated with, and doesn't live within their jurisdiction) saved more than a half million bucks.  Now he's drooling trying to find someplace to spend it.  Maybe on a new park ... for dogs and other democrats.

Wait till Schalmont has to pay GE back on their portion of the tax reduction ... it'll go down faster than auntie.

I have a lot of happy memories of Schalmont ---  a member of my family was among the first teachers when the high school opened in 1957 and I got to know many students over the years -- when they used to come to the house to visit or to work on the yearbook.

Helping out during the summer -- cleaning the classroom ... moving books .. putting up bulletin boards after school ... a lot of memories.

I rode the Schalmont bus to elementary school for a number of years.  Mr. Adair was one of our drivers -- I believe he passed away a few years ago.  We used to take one bus over to the main campus and another bus down to the Catholic school that I attended.    I'll never forget the time that I was engrossed in a conversation with a particularly young lady -- that I got on her bus instead of mine -- and got a tour of the hill country by Mariaville and Princetown.

Another fond memory of Schalmont was during the Rotterdam Sesquiecentenniel Celebration in 1970 --- Mr. Sheehan, who taught drama at the high school and later founded The Costumer, put together a special show called "Those Were The Days".   It was an awesome evening of music and laughter with local political figures of all party backgrounds and other civic leaders  performing in the show.

It was a great way to celebrate our town's 150th Anniversary.
