And how much is the cumulative assessed value of those properties compared to then?  That's the part that will be affecting my tax bill at the end of the year.  My assessment is that it's quite a bit lower.

You are correct. But you see, this is the part of the equation that they don't have a clue about. And exactly 'what' businesses? They are all either non-profits or government jobs. The businesses that have relocated to the city at the taxpayer's expense are paying little to notaxes. Downtown is still plagued with panhandlers, gangs and shooters. Schenectady is worse off today collectively!

The vertical garden sounds like a nice touch for downtown -- and there is certainly enough manure left over from Pat Zollinger's campaign to use as fertilizer.

Where did that $73,000 go?

That garden was never done. Where is the money?

We need to get answers to these questions to expose this mess for what it is.  Why renovate then demolish.?

the bigger question is -- how many dump trucks will it take to remove the manure left by the Zollinger campaign.

Transfinder’s arrival more important than building’s demolition

Re Nov. 16 article, “Demolition planned for 440 State St.; facade to be lost”: I moved to Schenectady from Connecticut to work at a downtown business nine years ago. When I started, I came to a downtown filled with vacant and ailing buildings and a population of homeless who stopped me at every block. I also found a very negative outlook from residents of the city, who had given up.
Since that time, I have witnessed and been a part of so much progress and great things that have taken place. This is a downtown that has opened new businesses, thriving restaurants, and brought a sense of hope to those very residents who nine years ago had given up.
I have seen this downtown area come so far, but it is a work in progress and has even farther to go. This is why I am so bothered by the uproar and bad feelings about the demolition of 440 State St. for Transfi nder.
Although I agree that the facade and historical preservation of the buildings downtown is important, I think continued growth of business and community should take precedence. Although there are “shovel-ready” sites in the city, we have a local company that wants to invest in downtown, and we should welcome that.
It has also been questioned about the building not having a ground-level retail component, and comparisons have been made to the DOT [Department of Transportation] headquarters. I can attest from my own business experiences, that even though the DOT headquarters does not allow public access, there has been an increase in hotel bookings, shopping and restaurant business from DOT workers who attend trainings at this location.
I think Transfinder will continue to support the growth of its downtown neighbors, with its employees taking to the streets for lunch, errands and shopping.
When a company such as Transfi nder wants to invest in the downtown and continue its tradition in Schenectady, the city, its residents and businesses should not only welcome them with open arms, but thank them for the longterm investment.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

The only people who have "given up" on Schenectady  are the Nattering Nayboobs of Negativity who NEVER cared about this community anyway, have been bashing and tearing it down for years and whose collective departure would be a most welcome improvement.

Yes they  have ...... and the empty homes, the exploding dss building, the increased crime, the 2 Hamilton Hills and blight is proof of this! But no one is listening to the overburdened, hard working taxpayers!

The liberal socialist democops have just about succeeded in creating a totally dumbed down, poverty stricken, drug dealin' society which is far easier to govern since there is no resistance since they are all 'takers'! There are few working, reasoning brain cells left in the city. It's is the accomplished dream for the liberal socialists! SUCCESS!!

The same DEM moron that went belly up at the Parker and screwed the taxpayers now has the nerve to criticize the Gazetto editorial questioning the idiotic IOOF demolition. Again if it is so wonderful why didn't Death Ray announce it BEFORE the election? Vertical gardens, Free Wi-fi Downtown, crime free, Jewelry store in Robb Alley, National retailers, THE Big Hose. Schenectady Armory, recyclable tree grates, its all part of a long list of con jobs put out by DEM liars who should have been kicked to the curb years ago. And you apparently haven't had enough yet.

Guess some people have more time to write editorials when their business goes bankrupt and they don't have to pay the unsecured loans Metroplex gave them......

That must be a load off his mind.

DVR, Can you tell us how your working together is working?  You cant blame anyone but the current administration for the following.  Do you think this is progress?  I am asking a serious question.  How could you be happy with this?  Please bring some substance to the post for once.
