I like Petta's and want to see them do well.
But they're future in that location appears bleak - maybe short term they can survive, but not long term. I imagine their customers now are mostly "old time" customers that they have had for decades. Those people will eventually stop going there, it's a fact of life.
I'm reasonably young and have attended many going away celebrations there from work - but haven't been there in at least a decade. I never even think of going there when going out to dinner - really just never crosses my mind. I should check it out again, the food is great. But I'd probably never become a "regular" just due to the neighborhood.
They should consider taking the loss on the building and relocating while they still can... And move someplace else in Schenectady.
Granted I don't know - maybe they are doing FANTASTIC at their location. But I heard they cut their lunch hours out? To me that suggests "not fantastic". |

They should relocate on their dime-not the taxpayers via Metrograft. The current location is not sustainable. This issue should have been addressed BEFORE Mike was re-elected for a 3rd time. Another free ride. The cheer leading by DVR/Gazetto indicates something is in the works. We need term limits and must return to an unpaid County Board of Supervisors. |

HEY DVOR...why don't you see if you can convince them to move to Rotterdam???? Would be gret location for them, business would be great; lotsa people would patronize them....you have the connections....GET IT DONE!!!! Won't conflict with your BBQ plans!!!! Would be feather in your cap if you can succeed. Maybe on property where Grand Union was on Hamburg; or at 4 corners INSTEAD OF CVS!!!! |

Petta's deserves to be congratulated for being in business for 60 years - just because they have managed to stay in business so many years.
All of the nasty comments were completely unnecessary -- that is why you folks on this website have a reputation for being a bunch of unintelligent, mean and nasty nayboobs.
If you had any class, you'd just congratulate the family for being in business for so many years -- and keep your nasty comments to yourself.
Thank God - the voters of Rotterdam did not elect the class-less, unintelligent, mean and nasty nayboobs of the NNTP. |

Pettas has EXCELLENT Italian food- they should move to an affluent Southern California beach city that appreciates good authentic Italian food. They would put most of the competition out of business. Schenectady politics are cancer. |

It is very difficult to find decent Italian food in other parts of the country. Petta's in Schenectady, Valente's in Watervliet, Trattoria Rustica in Pittsfield and Mallozzi's in Rotterdam and their restaurant at the Italian Community Center in Albany are among the BEST Italian restaurants/eateries in the the country and Villa Italia in Schenectady is the best Italian bakery anywhere.
If you want good Italian food anywhere in the country -- you pretty much have to buy some at the above mentioned establishments and take it with you when you travel. |

Well said! It's not that hard to run a business without a lunch service when the Democratic Women's Group meet at Petta's with a $20 buffet ($25 for non-members). Guess that's helping keep the ship afloat. |

Funny you should say that. There are a few schenectady businesses that would have gone belly up if it weren't for government gatherings. And I heard that right from 'one of the horse's mouth! Again....most schenectady businesses are being artificially propped up by government/taxpayer's money. It is truly a falsesense of economic secuity. And all this while the rest of the city slowly bleeds to death. |

Get real......we all know that neighborhood is not safe.....ride thru it ...and it is a wake-up call ....
The neighborhood needs a blast of "a higher power" to improve and make it safe for the residents.
Mont Pleasant, State Street, Bellevue, Woodlawn, Hamilton Hill, lower Lafayette St., Eastern Ave., McClellan St
Union St. look at all these places and see what has happened....Duane Ave...and that whole area is
unsafe...and in the middle of all this is old Washinton Irving School...where you apply for GED, etc..
So however great the spagetti and meatballs are for your appetite....be vigilant ...the neighborhood is
not safe....however anyone paints this picture

I have NEVER had a problem driving or walking through Hamilton Hill ... but since we are speaking of areas with criminal behavior ... the police needs to do something about the dangerous driver who lives near the Cobblestone Church in Rotterdam. |

Friends of ours were approached about a year ago in the parking lot by a pan handler. They never went back.
Folks that we know grew up on Paige Street. They moved out about 10 years ago and moved to mt. pleasant thinking it was safer. (which it was in comparison back then)
Now they have to move out of mt. pleasant and are moving right out of schenectady county. They said that they are tired of trying to keep up their property when there are pitbulls, gun shots, gangs and dirty diapers on their front lawn. They are just 'wallking away'!
They use to go to Mt. Pleasant bakery, but won't venture there either anymore. |

Well, be careful of the teenagers trying to jump the 890-Bridge...that happened right outside Petta's last night. |

Funny...the only one that doesn't have a problem is DVOR
maybe he becomes invisible in the neighborhood....hasn't got anything they want....
Many of my HS friends are living in othere states....they left Schdy a long time ago...They come back for HS reunions and are so ashamed they are from Schdy....went on a tour a few years ago , of their old neighborhoods and will never go back....totally surprised and ashamed that for the City who once "Lights and Hauls the World" has become a trashy city with trashy neighborhoods full of criminals and undesirables. |
