Duane Avenue is HARDLY in a Renaissance! It's a run down, crappy neighborhood with some of the worst streets around it.
The only reason DV posted this is because Petta's is the DEM gathering hall - other than that - DV would probably NEVER go there.
Growing up in a family that was HALF Republican and Half Democrat -- Petta's was one place that EVERYONE could agree on going to. And I have always patronized businesses that offer a great product and great customer service WITHOUT regard for the political affiliation of the owners. In fact, my over-all favorite restaurant- which happens to be in another state - is owned by the former State GOP chairman of that state. And Petta's on Duane Avenue is a HUGE part of the Renaissance going on in Schenectady -- even if there are other problems on Duane Avenue or in that neighborhood. |

I went there about 15 years ago, Pre Renaissance.....Just went on Google Maps and did a driveby. I have to say there secret may be the porthole style windows in the brick. I guess once you get into the building you would be pretty safe. Once I find an armored car I'll be sure to try go again. |

That steak place I think you mean used to be up by the post office? The building is now small medical dental offices. I wish there was a restaurant of that type around there still. |

Isn't it kind of insensitive to use a phrase that means rebirth to describe someplace where a young man was just shot dead? I mean, you can't get less 'reborn' than DEAD, can you? It's kind of the opposite, and it would be offensive if it were coming from anyone who actually thought about what he said before vomiting stupidity. 'Renaissance' with dead bodies. Sheesh. I didn't know the man, but how disrespectful of the dead can you get to IGNORE someone's passing like that? I know I should disregard this willful idiot, but people are trying to have reasonable discussions here and should not be subjected to that stuff. Ugh. |

Wow also noticed they have an affection for pavement. Being a DEM, wouldnt Petta want to have a little greenspace, Interesting how the city allowed him to extend the parking lot all the way up to the road. ie. No sidewalk. |

Please enlighten me DV...I'm DYING to know where exactly this Renaissance on Duane Avenue is occurring. Sure, there is Petta's, so what else has transpired on this street. Name one business, one improvement....ANYTHING! The King Magnet School is surrounded by barrier walls, the streets are a pot-hole nightmare and the neighborhood is a welfare nightmare. Come to Schenectady during the day...by yourself ....not when Petta's has the gratis DEM dinners. |

Look at Petta's assessment. Looks like it was reduced from the $370,000 to around $275,000. |

Well OF COURSE, DV can explain the DRAMATIC plummeting of the assessment value. Well, DV, tell us WHY the value of a business right in the middle of the worst area of the city is going down by so much. Homeowners have not been succesful in getting such a HUGE reduction even when they can show there are no willing buyers for their home when their asking prices are half of what the city claims the houses are worth. |

I think they were going for the balistraria effect that might make you more aware you were actually holed up in a castle under siege. Very clever architect them who designed it. |
