Group should try to occupy politics
Published 10:05 p.m., Friday, November 11, 2011

I have been watching the Occupy Albany protesters on television, and I think they may have some valid points. I do wonder, however, what they do to provide themselves with a livelihood. They look more like a bunch of people who found a great way to go camping free of charge.

I understand the issues and agree we need more from the rich. But, what about trying to change the political structure by using the system as it is? Why not run someone with some passion and brains for positions in government who can make a difference?

I went to my polling place to vote on Election Day and was a bit disgusted with the fact that there were 17 positions on the ballot, but only seven of them were contested. In 10 of them, candidates were running unopposed.

This kind of government is quite disturbing. No one wants to run because no one thinks they can win. If a political party is that powerful, then we are all in trouble.

We have to consider that when no one runs we may as well be living in a monarchy. If people want to occupy something, perhaps they should try to occupy a political office.

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.
