By Paul Nelson Staff writer
Updated 08:54 p.m., Wednesday, November 9, 2011

SCHENECTADY -- A four-legged creature is the newest member of the Schenectady County Sheriff's Office.

"I'm very pleased to have another addition to our K-9 unit," said Sheriff Dominic Dagostino Wednesday of the recent acquisition of a male Belgian Malinois named "Joker." "It's a very productive and important service that is utilized by law enforcement throughout the county and in some cases beyond."

The dog, who was purchased for $800 from a local breeder using drug money seized by the department's asset forfeiture program, will be handled by Deputy Derik Schmidt. The pair will be trained in patrol, tracking and explosive detection, with certification scheduled to get underway in the spring of 2012..................>>>>....................>>>>...................Read more: http://www.timesunion.com/local/article/New-sheriff-s-K-9-ready-for-job-2260982.php#ixzz1dIgS0FzM

It's pretty telling that CBS-6 news reports when Schenectady cops are arrested for drinking and driving yet the Gazetto writes about a new dog in the K-9 unit.

You can't really be more biased than that.

You do know the officer arrested was from SPD and the K9 Unit referenced is the Sherriff's Dept.?  Correct?

And, you do know they are two different agencies, correct?

I still don't get it - the Gazette did a story on the officer being arrested.

Is the point that the Gazette has a pro SPD Bias?

No visitor, as Bumble said, the Gazetto CHOOSES which stories are print-worthy and which are not.

Hey, good thing the Sheriff's office has another dog. This way when a City police officer leaves the scene of his DWI, he can be hunted down by man's best friend!

It's a business - they print what sells.   POlice dog = human interest. And it all depends on how busy or slow the news day is.

People magazine is a business which prints what sells. Newspapers are the fifth estate. They are supposed to be different.

Gazette had the opportunity to print "true event" letters and refused....

Spotlight the same result.....

It's the media that determines what  is to be printed....maybe if both papers has taken

the information and printed it, the outcome of the Tues election may have been different..
