Fire, bomb scare force students, voters from Schenectady High

SCHENECTADY -- A small fire and a bomb scare at Schenectady High School had voters casting their ballots in a parking lot Tuesday afternoon.
Voters, students and teachers were evacuated around 1:30 p.m. after a small fire started in a boys' bathroom. The fire was quickly contained, but a bomb scare about 10 minutes later kept everyone outside until 3:15 p.m.
Schenectady police Lt. Mark McCracken said a 15-year-old student was showing off military items in his backpack to other students. An administrator took the backpack outside and contacted police. A K9 dog found two military surplus hand grenades and a gas mask in the backpack. The grenades had been hollowed out and contained no visible explosive charge. Police searched the boy's locker but found nothing.
Police Chief Mark Chaires said the fire and the bomb threat appeared to be unrelated.
Voting continued when the machines were moved to a parking lot and a small alcove near the school, said Darlene Harris, a deputy commissioner with the Schenectady County Board of Elections. Thought they had metal detectors at the High School? How could a grenade and gas mask pass through?
Wow, that must have sent a message to the voters who had to stand outside to vote. Want more of the same chaos - keep the current motley crew. Sure Hull gained some votes there. |

Wonder how many votes got lost or suddenly appeared during this fiasco.  Doesn't it seem rather strange to folks that a school that supposedly has metal detectors and cops visible, can still have a kid slip into school with HAND GRENADES!!! And then start a fire???? |

Where would they get the money

It still seems rather strange to say the least. Not to mention the creepy guys hanging around outside of the many voting locations asking folks on the way out if they voted dem....and telling the folks going in to vote dem.
