There were two reports of rape, but police classified them as acquaintance rape, meaning the suspect knew the victim.

Oh, I guess that makes EVERYTHING all right then.

I mean, if I know the criminal that holds a gun up to my face...well, that's my fault right?

First you say there has been NO violent crime in Downtown (ignoring the 9/2010 shoot out at Bombers where a man was shot). Now you say there is LESS crime Downtown......

You contradict yourself so much that each time you post, all your ideas just keep becoming useless.

First, You still didn't tell us wheer you are getting your misinformation

Second, the camera footage is not kept for two weeks - that is simply not true.

Third, if you had been following this project you would know the end goal is to have these cameras integrated into the dispatch center.  At the same time, integrating them into the dispacth center will be of limited value unless the network was expanded to cover a much larger foot print of the City. The point
being - both things have to happen. Eventually, the cameras will be ingrained into the Dispatch Center.  They are monitored now, but not 24/7.

FACT: There are crimes happening every single day that 'do not' get reported. WHY?

Some folks/businesses can't wait 2-3 days for a cop to show up.

The only time some of these crimes get reported is if an insurance claim is required.

Drugs are being sold 'everywhere'. Homes and businesses are being broken into.

We never hear anything about 'crime prevention' Crime is actually 'allowed' and 'expected' to occur. The security cameras just watch them as they happen. When ya have a DA that takes the 'plea deal'  route instead of 'max penalties'.....it's a scum bag's dream come true!!

Like I said...........the cops have been cut off at their knees.

I stated where I received my information from - the article from DA Carney. Second, upon attending my neighborhood association meetings, the DA told our group how expensive the cameras are and that there are MANY decoys which frustrate people when they want to know why the police can't find out who did such-and-such crime.

These cameras are unmanned and therefore are useless in trying to PREVENT crime. "Eventually" they will be manned?? Are you serious?! Why don't you just get more tasers and not train the officers.

You've never stated where you get ANY of your information and YOUR credibility is suspect.

I'd rather rely on the info Carney has personally given my neighborhood association regarding the number of decoy cameras, video which only is saved for 2 weeks at a time and that THE CAMERAS ARE NOT MANNED 24/7.

Whatever...another waste of thousands of taxpayer dollars. I'll wait until I get my $350K survey to lodge my complaint.

Rachel is obviously just reiterating what Carney told her and her neighborhood association. I suggest you take this up with him.....yes?

And it doesn't appear that rachel is complaining.......perhaps just concerned and informed and pro-active and obviously not part of the dumbed down society. Funny how some folks don't like it when the 'informed' start questioning the 'system'!

Keep up the good work rachel! You are spot on!!!!

this is where the 'consolidation' comes in to play....they clean the downtown out and the sh!t is rolling to the outside.....I said this would happen 5 years ago.....it's a strong arm tactic.....

although the DSS building should be placed somewhere like Duanesburg or Princetown

The first thing that needs to be done is A COMPLETE AUDIT OF THE DSS BUILDING!

How many people from Downstate come to Schenectady every month to get their checks and food stamps at their PO Boxes? How many people come to live in Schenectady simply because the welfare benefits are easier to get here than anywhere else in the State?

It would save the County millions if one thorough audit was done and it would have the abusers of the social services system move elsewhere.

I have worked with quite a number of folks who go from county to county getting services.....they work a few days maybe weeks then collect....they live here for 3 years with other family and
spend most of the time in NYC....they did say that Schenectady was an 'easy girl'.....she puts out......this can only be from the top down at the state level...
some even have their kids pretend to be mentally challenged to get 'extra' money......
