Thank you DEM morons! Now when you are thinking Arby's you can leave the County like for everything else. When you have anti-business policies don't be surprised when you have no businesses.
First of all -- Schenectady County DOES NOT set the policies that would or would not attract business to the Rotterdam Square Mall! The Mall owners, some of whom I have met and consider lovely people -- ARE THE ONES WHO ATTRACT BUSINESSES TO THE MALL! However if Frank DelGallo and his hapless henchman would actively invite businesses here then I know many would sign up to operate in the Mall.
When the Filene's was open, people came from all over -- including fine individuals from Guilderland AND Albany who refused to go elsewhere because they appreciated the service and convenience that a Mall in Schenectady County offered. Customers TRAVELED from points as far as FIFTY MILES AWAY to shop because of the offerings of the Mall AND the entire county -- that was until the Nayboobs destroyed it along with DelGallo's henchmen.. Schenectady is a place people from boring locales such as Clifton Park flock to for its diversity and interesting offerings.. With the proper people running Town Government I expect to see that type of activity increase.
WHY do the Naybobs constantly try to tear down our fine community? Because they are a-holes and fu{ktards who were born of incestuous relations between their Mothers and goats..
not to worry ---- when the world's greatest BBQ opens .. Rotterdamanians will forget about Arby's and have their roast beef sandwich needs filled at a shining, new eatery.

Right, it's not the county, with all the money we send them to pay the state and federal mandates, and the jobs for every single democrat who ever looses a race in some sort of a lob job, who sends out tax bills, the ones that the owners of RSM have to pay (write a check for) out of the funds that they get from the monthly / yearly rent that they charge to the business owners / renters of space in the mall. If the amount of money that the county states they need for "state and federal mandates" goes up, the mall just pays that and doesn't send the additional cost off to those who are renting space from them. The overspending at ALL LEVELS OF GOVERNMENT are what "would not attract business to the Rotterdam Square Mall" (or anywhere else in town).
This failure lies in the malls ownership, it is obvious to everyone that if the mall doesn't update it will slowly die out and emplty. Perhaps that is there way out of it, bankrupt it? Anyways even though the food was crap it's still sad to see businesses leaving our town.
Everything is someone elses fault. Never the pathetic DEMS that have imploded the City over 37 years or the County Dems for the past 7 years. It's never 16 year taxing idiot McCarthy nor the SS Savage leftovers fault. Arby's, Friendly's, McDonalds and Auntie Anns Pretzels are not closing nationwide. They look at the disgusting taxes, the disposable income, the lack of sales and pull out of this tax crazy County. Schenectady County is no place for business. Monkey business-yes? All the hot air from Death Ray, McCarthy, King Brucker and TJ Hooker cannot change the facts on the ground.

again simply crazyassed thinking - accusing some political party or person for scenarios going on all over the country- been to las Vegas lately- how about Toledo oh ? - but the little minds in the little cities are the worst.
' let me run the show for a while mentality ' you cant fix anything- because you are what is broken- what the hell are you thinking ? you've got nothing- and nothing to offer . Stupid decisions u have made in the last 20 years have put you up to your neck in doody
The enclosed mall concept is actually obsolete ----- time to give Rotterdam Square Mall a Clifton Commons/Mohawk Common makeover.
And get some decent anchor stores.

Sorry Ron, but you are misinformed and wrong. Try telling that to Robert Congel and the DESTINY USA addition to the giant Carousel Center Mall in Syracuse. With the addition I believe it makes this the 2nd or 3rd largest mall next to Mall of America (another enclosed mall). "Destiny USA is a new 2.4 million square foot destination that includes Carousel Center, a dominant super regional shopping center already attracting 20 million annual visits. The new construction will mix all types of retail including; luxury outlet tenants, restaurants and entertainment. A stunning three-story glass atrium will provide perfect weather year round." http://www.destinyusa.com/
JUST BECAUSE SISSY SAYS SO DOESN'T MAKE IT SO...BUT HE THINKS IT DOES!!!!! JUST BECAUSE MC1 SAYS SO DOESN'T MAKE IT SO!!!!!

And don't forget the other monster of a mall, Crossgates.

Joe -- there are MANY MORE examples of enclosed malls being torn down completely or reconfigured to be more like Mohawk Commons across the country. There are a few "destination malls" like Carousel Mall and Mall of America but they are fewer and farther between.
This is a quote from the National Center for Community Economic Development: "Of the 45,800 centers in U.S., 1,100 are regional or super regional shopping malls. Approximately 7- 12-percent of U.S. malls are considered economically obsolete. Many of these malls were created at a time when most households had only one income and there was more leisure time for shopping. Many retailers have left the mall for open-air shopping centers. The cost of operating in a mall is more expensive as these facilities have common costs of heat, light and security. They are also more expensive to build (as a result, only a handful are currently under construction). Retailer margins are very slim and they have difficulty paying $40/SF (requiring sales of $400- $500/SF). Accordingly, more department stores are going into open-air shopping centers. Some industry experts believe that Sears, once an anchor for most every successful mall, will one day be an “off-mall” retailer."
Rotterdam Square Mall needs a multi-million dollar investment to either turn into a "desitnation/regional shopping mall" or to convert it into an open-air shopping center like Mohawk Commons or Clifton Commons ---- my educated guess is that it would be MUCH MORE FEASIBLE to convert it into an open-air shopping center --------a new Rotterdam Commons.
