Just read through this.   Most of us who come to these boards know what's going on.    But just read the jibberish which will be a question on the REVERSE side of the election ballot for the city

Quoted Text
PROPOSAL NUMBER ONE
A Local Law Amending City Charter
A Local Law Amending Chapter 13 of the Charter of the
City of Schenectady, § C13-3. Government under Plan C,
and superseding the provisions of NY Second Class Cities
Law §§71 and 74, vesting in the City Council the sole and
exclusive authority to determine the number of all City
officers and employees of each office and department and
to fix the salaries, compensation and benefits of all City
officers and employees. Shall the local law be approved?

___ Yes    ___ No

Could they do a little better by FIRST, placing it at the top of the first page of the ballot (just like it used to be on the old machines) and word it as:

As the city residents voted for a strong mayor form of government, do you favor removing some powers of the mayor, specifically: choosing city employees, setting salaries for department heads, negotiating with unions; and instead giving those powers to the members of the city council.   (NOTE: This proposal was made by the current city council including the council member who is currently acting as mayor who will retain his council seat even if he loses the mayoral election)    How to you vote?

__ Yes       ___ No

I know, the "note" really couldn't be there, but that "note" really need to be CLEARLY publicized to the voters.

But come one you dems, put this to the voters IN PLAIN ENGLISH.....or are you afraid that if the voters know you are trying to screw them that they will vote it down!

The DEMS know that Roger Hull will be the next Mayor so they want to have the City Council control all patronage hiring. They are in for a triple whammy. Vote NO! on the McCarthy charter amendment and dump gumshoe Gary.

ALL exiting boards/associations/councils do the same thing...patronage politics 101. Make sure you get all you can before you're booted.

Too bad the current 'leaders' think of clever ways to protect their own interest meanwhile the state of the City is falling apart.

Maybe we can vote someone in who puts the needs of the City residents first.

Want to further screw the City sheeple? Vote for Goofy McCarthy or any of his DEM Council dwarfs. The worst is Leesa Perazzo who thinks City taxes are too low and doesn't think high taxes implodes City property values. She made a total fool of herself at the debate and was laughed at by the audience. This is the worst DEM slate in decades. Throw the bums out!

Proof or it didn't happen

Only liberals would think taking fleabag crack houses and renovating them with millions and putting young professionals and college students in there is a bad thing. The liberals would prefer the crack house in foreclosure that no one would ever move back into ever, ever, ever, ever.

Hull helped rebuild and bring families BACK to Seward Place. It's STILL a beautiful neighborhood and has withstood the test of time.

Meanwhile three blocks over, the Plex can't even POUR millions into a 'Little Italy' neighborhood to get it going.

One street and Hull made it successful.

"Little Italy" failure and the Plex has to bail out Cornells.

Maybe the Plex needs to take some pointers and walk to Seward.

As Union President Hull invested $16 million in college funds to improve College Park. The only place in the City where property values have gone up. McCarthy is in free fall. He can't run on his record. He can't budget. He can't win a debate. Even DEM committee people are supporting Roger Hull. This idiotic amendment will lose in a landslide.

Union College's payments to the city -- or lack thereof -- have become a campaign issue.

Acting Mayor Gary McCarthy is accusing his opponent, Roger Hull, of actively damaging the city's tax base while running Union College. He calculated that Hull cost the city $8 million of its tax base during his years at Union.

Hull, who was president of Union for 15 years before creating his own party to challenge the Democrats in city office, fought back with his own calculations.

He said Union paid for $5 million of city expenses during his administration, mainly to demolish derelict buildings near the college.

"It was things the city would have to do," Hull said.

But McCarthy said college officials only wanted to improve the college's image.

"No matter how you structure it, the college was acting only in the narrow interests of the college," he said.

While a few buildings were demolished, many others were converted into student housing and college offices. In total, the college took $8 million off of Schenectady's tax roll by turning much of its surroundings into tax-exempt property.

Hull acknowledged that Union renovated the neighborhood around the college because it would help Union.

It sure sounds like a smart fiscal move on Hull's part to save the college money. We can all see how the city officials wastes the money they get in taxes so why give them any more than you have to.

Democrats are attacking higher education?   So much for the stereotypical pro education democrat.  Attack higher education when it is politically convenient.
