SCHENECTADY -- The former director of the county department of Consumer Affairs/Bureau of Weights and Measures t was forced to resign after admitting he stole nearly $51,000 in fines the agency was supposed to be collecting from businesses.
Christopher Godlewski pleaded guilty Monday in Schenectady County Court to a charge of felony grand larceny as part of a plea bargain that requires him to serve six months in jail and five years of probation.
He is expected to be sentenced by County Judge Karen Drago on Dec. 5 but he'll begin serving his sentence on Nov. 14.
On Monday, Godlewski, 41, resigned, retroactive to March 25 and gave the court a certified check for $50,800 in restitution, the amount he fleeced from December 2009 to March. Represented by attorney James Knox, Godlewski had been suspended without pay since his arrest in late March, county officials said.
Outside court, assistant district attorneys Katie McCutcheon and Jennifer Assini explained that in December 2009 Godlewski created a bank account and P.O. box under the name of the Schenectady Pirates-AG Fund, a now-defunct college-level baseball team for players with professional aspirations. Prosecutors said it was unclear if any of the stolen cash ever went to the sports team for which the county had earlier said he was a coach.

I beg to differ....there are many local political candidates that know lots about the 'job' they are running for....but I wouldn't give them the time of day!! New IS better!! Just not in every case......obviously!!

Working together works! The sad part was that there was the former employee hard working Mr Briggs had to be fired to make way for this idiot. For political reasons only. Once the DEM working together morons took over all REPS were cleared out. Lumpy Kosiur is another example of making way for a DEM. Capable employees are removed only for political expediency.
