How do you earn money when you don't have a job! I don't know anyone who has been unemployed throughout their 40s unless they are disabled. Maybe that is what it is- maybe he is disabled...I know when he ran he was a laughingstock because no one wants to vote for a guy like him, who had no resume and no job, and owned no property. If someone is in their 40s and does not own property, it speaks volumes about their financial acumen. Maybe it is the bad genes...

First - my personal life is NOT the topic of this thread nor does it have any bearing on this topic  -- and my finances are NONE of your business

Second - your statements about me having no resume or being unemployed or not owning property are just out and out lies --  but  that was always you m.o.  Joe --- you couldn't win an election based on debating the issues .. so you make up lies and try to trash your opponents

After months of lying about the fact that GE Solar was coming to town the DEM morons again have egg on their faces. The biggest tool was Gary Hughes who would not shut up about this "imminent" job creation at County meetings. But don't fret. They got a Troy purse maker to maybe create 4 new jobs.

This decision was made back in April when GE purchased PrimeStar Solar in Aurora, Colorado. If NY was gullible enough to believe they even had a shot....well that's just plain stupid.

GE has taken the $15 +++million from NY and run elsewhere. What's new. All the solar panel materials are in China, I'll give it a few years when GE decides to close shop Colorado and move overseas.

Bravo Rachel! The DEM morons have known this for months and lied about it. The worst are Gary Hughes, Death Ray and McCarthy who kept saying these jobs were "imminent". But we get 100 jobs-lol.

That's still 100 more jobs than the Republicans have created.    Hugh Farley only seems to create jobs for himslef and his good-for-nothing son Bob.

Senator Farley actually did bring State jobs Downtown. NYS DOT, NYS Lottery, over 1,000 jobs from ALBANY not Rotterdam and Mt Pleasant. He is not going around lying like McCarthy and every DEM moron running for dog catcher about job creation that never occurred.

Hugh Farley didn't create those jobs -- he just did some "favors" for Governor Pataki and they moved those jobs from Albany County to Schenectady County -- and they weren't even private sector jobs.

the private sector in Schenectady doesn't think it has to try hard because the government will take up most of the slack

McCarthy didn't create any jobs either. Except for himself. We don't need no 350 high paying private sector jobs here. We have Acting Mayor McCarthy who created more jobs for himself than President Obama created for the nation. Besides we like the minimum wage hot dog jobs Death Ray has been lying about crating for 6 years.

Not highly likely actually.

These are thin film based solar cells...  From what I understand there's a machine a half mile long where glass goes in one end, and comes out with the thin film deposited on the glass at the other end.

Probably not very labor intensive to then take it and package it up mechanically.

This is speculation on my part of course.

But what isn't speculation is that the demand is here.  Building in China, where costs are going up, and shipping it overseas...  Well it starts to work against you of course.  That's why GE is bringing back a lot of appliance jobs from Mexico among other places.

Look.......government does not CREATE jobs........the capitalistic free market, private sector does!

The role of government is to create and inviting atmosphere of low taxes, low crime, sound infrastructure and people who can sustain and support the business either being the employee or the customer.

The free market would do just fine IF the government stayed out of it. Abolish some of the over kill regulations. Stop politicizing the unions.

If the free market sees a need, hence a chance to make a profit, they will come to YOU. You shouldn't have to go out and lure them with low/no taxes etc.....If there is a need and find a municipality that can support it....they will come to you!!!

The capitalistic, free market system, is not what is running schenectady's engine....it is the government aka taxpayer's money.

Also it doesn't hurt that GE is helping the Federal Government (left with egg on their face spending $535 million to bank roll the Soylar panel company which went bankrupt and left the feds hanging).

GE also purchased PrimeStar in April and 2 other US panel companies closed in the past 2 months. It now has a monopoly on this industry.

In my opinion, GE is repaying the Feds by saving this dying industry. From what I've read, their is a flood in the market of these panels - leaving them devalued. Germany is the top maker and there is also companies in Canada whic make the same materials as China does.

Proof is that GE has no loyalty to NY and in the future, I doubt any loyalty to the US if Countries abroad can bankroll them. That's just business sense. NY State better get on the ball because they have no clue how to keep or retain business at this time.

and attract new busines beyond the service sector....and that is not a slam on service sector, but think about it. No industries sustained in NY, no new ones coming in, then need for service sector declines also.
