GE will invest $300 million to retrofit and expand a 200,000-square-foot warehouse in Aurora, Colo., according to Victor Abate, vice president of GE’s renewable energy business.
He said the company tried to find a spot suitable in the Capital Region or elsewhere in New York, but couldn’t find anything they could get operational by next year.
“There wasn’t a building big enough we could move into,”

Ten minutes on Loop Net - found one warehouse in Rotterdam and at least two in the Capital District.

What a lie...there's no buildings here. Maybe NY ran out of free money for GE. Good luck in Colorado, hope you get frost bite!

No, maybe Mr. Gillen could start spending time making sure businesses don't leave the State. Isn't that what he gets paid over $100K to do every year?

10 minutes of time and research...really? No one could figure this out?

Time to start rethinking who's running the show at Metroplex.

Bringing businesses to an area is one thing. Finding the 'employable' is another. One would have to assume that Ray Gillen/Metroplex is well aware of that since most businesses in schenectady are gin mills.

GE was not looking for employees that only know how to screw in a light bulb, or how to mix a martini or flip burgers. No disrespect to any of these folks............but GE was apparently looking for a higher caliber of employees.........and schenectady doesn't fill the bill.

"Schenectady County will gain 100 jobs associated with General Electric’s growth in the renewable energy division over the next three to five years."

GE has no problem finding the EMPLOYABLE for these jobs.

Too bad they knocked down the old GE buildings. Something about high taxes. Does Aurora Colorado also have a Metrograft tax which increases the regressive sales taxes on residents? There's more to the decision than vacant buildings. Schenectady does not a favorable business climate because of overtaxation and horrible infrastructure.

Most of the buildings that GE knocked down were in Rotterdam --- and Rotterdam has a bad reputation -- it is seen as anti-business.    This is evidenced by the way that Martz and Tommasone mishandled the Wal-Mart issue 6 years ago -- how Mertz and Tommasone wrecked the chance for new development by refusing to go along with the intelligent recomendations of the Exit 25-A study group and by passing that stupid law which allowed the town board to arbitrarily veto decisions of the planning commission- ---- the screw up of the Wal-Greens project by Mertz and Tommasone .... and the recent vote to refuse to send the CVS project to the planning commission cast another negative light on Rotterdam.

Well, this week he has gone back as far as the early 20's in finding Republicans to blame for everything from World War II to just a few years for local economic misery. It really takes some degree of malice, but more importantly- creativity!

And all this wisdom from a guy who doesn't work, has no resume at 50, lives with his aunts in a haunted house, and never created one job in his life.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

GE stated that they wouldn't open this plant here because there are no available 200,000+ warehouse space in upstate NY - this is clearly a lie no matter how you slice it.

It's business, I get it. The Metroplex has no more money to keep GE here and they're only handing out $40K grants nowadays.

Hence, the reason why Metroplex and the government can't be involved with private enterprise - when the handouts in your State are gone, they'll go somewhere else. You can't keep giving taxpayer money out to support business - business has to do this themselves. The government has to cut the cord.

Thank you working together crew! Thanks to your unified DEM redevelopment joke Aurora got the jobs and we got the shaft. The bloggers must find locations because Death Ray is too busy stuffing his face with free pizza. But don't fret. Add another 100 jobs to the nonexistent DEM bull s**t list.

Exactly! No one pays back these DEM idiots-they go bankrupt. Death Ray actually paid rent for a tenant in Center City to fill the vast emptiness. $40,000 for a new facade for a purse maker? And these moronic trolls jump up and down like it's major news. There is not enough money left to schmear General Electric. BTW-GE is Obama's best buddy that paid ZERO corporate taxes on profits of $14 BILLION. This explains Boxy lunatic defense.

Who cares? He's trying to be polite and only you take him literally. Schenectady, with its sickening taxes, is no place for business. Monkey business-yes! Metrograft has run dry. The DEMS wasted millions on facades, gin mills and recycled tree grates.  They make up job creation numbers and only the moron trolls take it seriously.

Come on Box... you asked to find you a location - I did that.

Now you're saying that nothing is suitable?

You know what - that's why Metroplex is there...and gets paid $100K++ of the taxpayer money every year....YOU MAKE IT SUITABLE!!! You sell it, you hype it, you close the deal.

Never let someone walk with a phony bologna excuse like that - economics 101!

I gotta stop listening to trolls.....sorry!
