GE announced that the new $300 MILLION solar panel plant with 350 jobs will go to Aurora, Colorado. Another fumble by the DEM Metrograft "planners". For months, Gary Hughes, Death Ray and Gary McCarthy have been screaming that Schenectady was GE's number one choice and would get the 350 high paying jobs. Wrong as usual. Since they all take credit for nonexistent job creation they must share the blame for to failing to present a decent proposal.

GE will invest $300 million to retrofit and expand a 200,000-square-foot warehouse in Aurora, Colo., according to Victor Abate, vice president of GE’s renewable energy business.
He said the company tried to find a spot suitable in the Capital Region or elsewhere in New York, but couldn’t find anything they could get operational by next year.
“There wasn’t a building big enough we could move into,”

Schenectady County will gain 100 jobs associated with General Electric’s growth in the renewable energy division over the next three to five years.

Too bad they knocked down the old GE buildings. Something about high taxes. Does Aurora Colorado also have a Metrograft tax which increases the regressive sales taxes on residents? There's more to the decision than vacant buildings. Schenectady does not a favorable business climate because of overtaxation and horrible infrastructure.

They figured that if they built this (lol) 'solar plant' (lol) in Colorado, they'll take less of a loss before shipping it over to China in 2 or 3 years.

How much is Obama flushing in? Tonko must be upset. He's always down for green nonexistent jobs. No vacant buildings Downtown-that's a good one. What about the Schenectady Armory? Not big enough? lol.

Funny, you say that they couldn't find anything to be operational by next year.  Looking at some of the buildings down on GE's campus, it couldn't take too long for them to put something like that together to do any of the business they need.  Also, there's plenty of room on the campus where they could put this building in, but it's just the heavy weight of the additional costs to doing business in the city of Schenectady.  If it wasn't, then they wouldn't be adding at the same time in Niskayuna.

Well, good thing the ALCO site will have a bunch of condos meanwhile Colorado gets 350 jobs.

Seems like Galesi will be shovel ready and operational by next year.

Fumble?! A HUGE slap in the face.

GE tried to find a spot suitable in the Capital Region or elsewhere in New York, but couldn’t find anything they could get operational by next year.

IF you know of a building available in NY State that is at least 200,000-square-feet please let General Electric know immediately.
GE is about to spend $300 million to retrofit and expand their Colorado warehouse for the project.

Maybe they could have checked with Schenectady Steel to see what types of breaks they could get for being a local business that was looking to build.  Either that, or I hear there's another business, ironically, also from Colorado that is considerably less expensive than other ways of building, and might be able to cut the costs for them, tell them to call the General.  General Steel.

By the way, how big is the area that the town owns at Curry Road Shopping Plaza?  Be a nice place for someone to bring in a factory, some businesses... ANYTHING (except more MFRH).

Hum, seems a little ironic that the City can build the Taj Mahal garage in record time, has an empty Olender Building (along with the $2 million empty Trustco location across the street), will have an empty Adult Worlk building, has a completely empty grossmans buiding ....all this on Erie along with a shovel ready ALCO site yet NO ONE can find space in the City????

Come on, either GE skipped town or metroplex has no idea how much empty space is simply lining Erie Blvd.

How about the Schenectady Armory? That isn't big enough- lol. What a total slap in the face to the DEM working together crew and especially Acting Mayor McCarthy. For months they have been telling anyone who would listen to prepare for 350 new workers Downtown. Now you know why they were jumping up and down about the purse nonsense-no?  BTW they are keeping their manufacturing in Troy and will never employ 40 here. There are dozens of vacant properties Downtown. GE didn't want them because they are in Taxenectady. The DEM morons know the "importance of high taxes". And it came back to bite them on the arse. AGAIN!

For GE to put up a new building, the process would take years... GE needs this facility in months, so if possible they wanted an           existing structure.  Few in the area are big enough and with the uninterrupted interior space of a warehouse.

GE preferred NY, but settled for Colorado.

1) Could have taken the new "Target" location in Glenville
2) Build a nice building like Fortitech did near the airport
3) Wiped out some of the abandoned buildings on State and built for less (Galesi is getting tax exemptions on building materials) - near the Hill
4) Tear down the old Marcella Building and Rite aide in MP - take out some crack houses over in MP...would have been a HUGE asset to that neighborhood
5) How much room in the new Center City?
6) Old SACC building?

There's plenty more...all over the City. Again, a HUGE slap in the face to Schenectady.

All of Erie Blvd is empty because of these DEM idiots. High tech corridor? ROTFLMAO!! Death Ray couldn't sell it. His spin today is hilarious. GE told Death Ray to stuff it. They knew they were out months ago and kept lying about it. Schenectady County is the only County in the State with a Metrograft tax and a County planner with no planning expertise. This is what happens when you make planning a political plum.

Sorry, I don't buy it. Plenty of buildings available within NYS that meet/exceed their rqmts. GE had no intent to stay in NY, so all the comments are just smoke screen.  Rochester has buildings like what they need; Syracuse has them; Utica area has them; Buffalo area has them.....if they wanted to stay in NYS, they would have. Colorado made them a better offer!
