Ya still don't get it.........I really didn't think ya would............just think, if for the last 20yrs. all the thought, effort and planning that's gone into this project had been directed elsewhere...oh I don't know........like say finding creative ways to deal with rotting infrastructure etc. wouldn't that have been time better spent................start thinking outside the box.............if you really want this be creative, don't do what everyone else does

Well, we (the commission) have only been working on it for the past 2 1/4 years - not 20 years.  Since the Parks and Recreation Commission doesn't have jurisdiction over infrastructure or other town issues not related to parks and recreation, I would have to say it would be a waste of our time discussing those issues at our monthly meetings.   And, we are NOT doing what everyone else is doing --- we are trying to put together partnerships between the residents, the business community and all levels of government to find creative ways to improve our parks and recreation system and program .. and to finance it in ways other than through the local property tax.

As I have said a number of times - there are many issues that the town needs to address and parks are just one of them - but I only have so much time to give and parks is the issue that I have chosen to dedicate my efforts to.   You and others may not like that -- but that is just too bad.    Besides, I am quite sure that if I devoted my efforts to some other cause -- you and the nayboobs would just criticize that -- so honestly .....  and I mean it exactly the way it sounds ... grow up and get over it.

Bumbthru....do you really think our taxes will ever go own....if I truly believed that was possible I would be on you side...it ain't ever happening. Take what you can get I say, everyone else is and let's get this town in order....Our property taxes in this town are so high because everyone doesn't pay their fair share...unequal assessments. GAR did a sh*t job...shardon court montebello, Ronnie court...look at what they get away with..not to mention some of the commercial properties....asimple park that will improve the area isn't gonna make or break what we pay, but could ad value to the area

AND THAT....is how the gumbas make it

No, I'm not old as dirt..I hear you on the subject or rotting infrastructure etc....but no one is giving grants for that...noprivate funding, people all have a difference of opinion of what should be done...how and when, that's what  makes the world go round. I hope the world gets it's sh*t together soon, but until then, I say go for the free money and get this town on it's feet....

Thus, we arrive at the crux of the matter which is a falsified lexicon of far left liberalism that has been accepted as some sort of gospel by the uninformed general public. There is no free money. There never has been and never will be. Taxpayers have the money that otherwise would be in the economy, circulating and making our economy stronger- CONFISCATED. It then sits in a federal treasury and some guru (usually some fool like Ray Gillen with a huge sense of self-importance and desire to control others) with a line of bull, decides to send it somewhere to be squandered in a very inefficient manner.

Often the money goes one-quarter of the way it would in the private hands of American citizens and eventually it ends up in some park like the one Severson wants to force on us as some sort of legacy for himself. Of course plms will be greased, costs will be triple or quadruple what the private sector would pay, and only a select few (politically connected friends of the regime- see thread including mayoral donors as example) will benefit.,

THEN, to make matters worse, things start to break and grass needs to be cut and snow needs to be removed and low and behold the local taxpayers need to come up with the extra bread to pay that load for eternity, or if it is in the case of a government building, for 30 years or so until it is declared substandard and needs to replaced at a cost factor of 50 or so times greater then the original price.

So there you have it all of those who want the reality- there you have it! Free money!

No one has said there is "free money" -- but the FACT remains that residents of Rotterdam pay state and federal taxes which fund these grants and there is ABSOLUTELY NO GOOD REASON FOR US TO REFUSE TO TAKE STATE OR FEDERAL GRANTS.   For years, we have paid for  new parks, new town halls, new police stations, new sewers IN OTHER COMMUNITIES ...    in the meantime .. some NNTP jackass says "don't apply for state grants" and "don't apply for federal grants"  --- all the while WE are still paying our state and federal taxes that go to fund these infrastructure projects all across the country.

McGarry, Tomaselli, Vellano and the other crack pot NNTPers/tea partiers will NOT lower our taxes by refusing state and federal grants  ---  they will be guaranteeing the exact opposite ....  higher taxes and .. eventually .. no services and nothig but broken infrastructure left behind.

biag....if memory serves me correctly, there was a once in a lifetime grant available for sewers for the hamburg street area when time warner was moving in. Guess what? The taxpayers voted it DOWN!! Why? They didn't want to pay higher taxes.

Good decision or not.....the point is....rotterdamians have voted down public sewers and have voted down an ambulance taxing district.....BECAUSE THEY DON'T WANT TO PAY HIGHER TAXES!!!

Does anyone really think that the MAJORITY of the taxpayers are willing to pay more for parks or any other non-essential program? Rotterdamians are voting NO for the ESSENTIAL programs!!

biag....if you are looking for a municipality in schenectady county that will give you the best bang for your buck.......then you need to move to Glenville.

And if everyone continues to vote in the same clowns year after year after year......then ya all deserve what ya get!! imho

time for a change folks!! New faces/names/ideas!

The commission has only been working on it for the past 2 + years -- so give it time and when the new leadership comes in on a white horse -- be ready to roll up your sleeves and get this done. It is essential to find creative ways to improve our parks and is the first step in doing just that....

It appears that while the feds and states and cities and towns are saying there is NO MONEY, and while the average taxpayer is scaling back...........the entitlement thinking taxpayer is looking at their government saying......'WE WANT MORE STUFF'!!

'TAX US MORE...PLEASE!!'

<<<I think this mabee farm has it's place. However, I don't know of many folks who actually go there or attend their events. Some of their events are a bit on the pricey side from what I've been told. It would be interesting to see how many of today's youngsters and young adults really take an interest in that stuff and how it will be received and acknowledged by the next generation.

Has anyone here ever gone there?>>>

My grandparents raised a family at the house, and my parents were married there. I think my grandparents moved awayin the late 60s or early 70s to Schenectady. I spent a lot of time all around the house and grounds. I went to a Mabee Farm open house one year. I was talking to one of worker and asked if the small hidden spot was ever found. No one knew what I was referring to, and she asked if I would point it out to her. I started to follow the woman until someone stopped me, asking for the entry fee, I said I'm showing her a spot in the home you don't know existed. Nope, they wanted the entry fee. Oh, well.....I wonder if they ever found that spot?
