The grand opening of the Franchere Center at Mabee Farm was held today in Rotterdam Junction. There was a nice crowd in attendance -- including a number of descendants of Jan Mabee.
Now that the Franchere Center is open -- the next two big projects to tackle --
#1) finding a permanent and suitable space in either town hall or the senior center to properly store and display town historical records and artifacts
#2) proceeding with developing a formal, concrete plan for Bicentennial Park and securing private, state and federal funding to make it a reality by 2020

Using anything other than private money will really piss me off

I think this mabee farm has it's place. However, I don't know of many folks who actually go there or attend their events. Some of their events are a bit on the pricey side from what I've been told. It would be interesting to see how many of today's youngsters and young adults really take an interest in that stuff and how it will be received and acknowledged by the next generation.
Has anyone here ever gone there?

#1) the town's collection of historical documents and artifacts are NOT stored at the Mabee Farm (which is owned by the COUNTY historical society) but are housed in town-owned buildings
#2) Mabee Farm's events are very well attended and draw people from across the region, from across the state and from out of state
#3) the Franchere Center at Mabee Farm is well built for its location along the river and the exhibition space and archival spaces are all WELL ABOVE the flood level

How many folks collectively are there at one given time?

ok we're getting closer........and where are these buildings........and just who exactly is the town historian...........and if I wished to view these documents where and when can this be done.......and when will they be available on-line, and why aren't they already?
It is interesting -- the NNTP/nayboobs can't seem to respond to any thread by actually sticking to the topic and making a POSITIVE contribution ... all you get from them is negativity and personal attacks.
