NEW YORK (AP) — Angela Malerba, who works in public relations in Boston, carries a debit card because she likes to know when she buys something that she has enough in her account to pay for it. But paying $5 a month to use her own money? That's too much. So when Bank of America starts charging the fee next year, Malerba figures she'll rely more heavily on her credit card. Or, in a strategy that seems almost quaint in these swipe-and-go times, she may just carry more cash. "Paying $60 a year in debit card fees just seems absurd," she says. The 38.7 million people who carry Bank of America debit cards will face a similar decision in the latest example of banks raising fees or establishing new ones — not just for debit cards but for checking accounts, visiting ATMs, even talking to a teller. It is their right to charge and YOUR RIGHT To find another bank. What is the big deal? Why would the average Rotterdamian put their money there when they have 20 other options, with several of them LOCALLY OWNED?
I know that if you travel to FL or nationwide it is easy to use them but common. I have a business and only write 15 checks a month down from 40 a few years ago. Some of them could even be done through ACH but I haven't set them up yet. They have to make a profit somewhere and fees are as old as the hills. Just like fees anywhere else. I talked to a friend of mine a few weeks ago, and they told me that Trustco wouldn't cash a Trustco check made out to cash without them opening a Trustco account. I always thought banks would cash their own checks...It seems to me that banks are finding a new way to get more deposits.
First I agree.....if you don't want to pay the fee....go to another bank. God only knows there are a ton of them out there!
Second.....I have heard several complaints about the 'hometown bank'. Wouldn't go there!!
Third......I would recommend a credit union as opposed to a 'bank'.

The Occupy Wall Street movement came to L.A. today, as several hundred protesters marched on L.A. City Hall. The crowd gathered at around 10 a.m. at Pershing Square, then marched up Broadway to the north lawn of L.A. City Hall. Crowd estimates varied, but it appeared that the group was at least 750 people.

Occupy Wall Street, Occupy Boston Occupy LA... Occupy SAN FRANCISCO -- Hundreds of protesters took to the streets of San Francisco today to protest Wall Street banks and six were arrested, police said.
The protesters marched along Market Street this afternoon, stopping in front of Bank of America, Charles Schwab and Wells Fargo, organizers from ReFund California said.
Six activists went inside a Chase Bank branch in the 500 block of Market Street with sleeping bags and pillows and prepared to stay.

OCCUPY DENVER - A national protest movement moved from the streets of New York to Denver on Saturday.
"Occupy Denver" is the local protest based on the larger "Occupy Wall Street" protests in New York City.
Protesters say they are a leaderless resistance movement, and the one thing they have in common is they will no longer tolerate the greed and corruption of Wall Street.
