DSS building location couldn’t be worse

Who were the geniuses who thought of putting the Schenectady County Department of Social Services (DSS) on a main thoroughfare [Broadway]?
The number of children outside that building, beginning hours before it even opens, is large. The National Grid yard is right across the street, which makes it even more dangerous. Large trucks are in and out of there all day long.
The crosswalk stops the flow of traffic dead when it does get used. This backs traffic up on both sides, which in turn ripples up the hill and down under the overpass, where cars are coming off I-890.
Most often, the clientele do not use the dedicated crossing area. Instead they cross whereever it is convenient.
As a Schenectady taxpayer, I am disgusted in the decision by offi cials in office. Maybe it is time we take the employment positions away from the politicians and put it in the hands of everyday, ordinary citizens who have common sense and no ulterior motives and agendas.

Thank you working together crew! Metrograft "leader" Gary McCarthy thought this was a wonderful location. An important renaissance tool! We don't need no industrial jobs-we need more social services. Got hot dogs?

Hum. So is this the new definition of a retail center in Schenectady? A porn shop, liquor store, domino pizza, chicken butcher and DSS all in the same vicinity!?!?

Wow, that's quite the poor man's Renaissance.

To add to it there are so many issues about DSS.  I realize I am hijacking this thread but I am going to anyway the DSS building location is not the only issue.

My friend is in a wheel chair.  He had gotten so angry at the way he was treated there he decided to wheel himself home.  He never called for a ride he didn't think he could control his anger around his friends. I have never seen him in the 17 years I have know him to ever let his emotions rule his decision making if that is any indication of the horrible way he was treated.

Being is new to looking towards help from DSS, he has worked all his life, when medical issues took it's tole so he is not savvy like most users.  My god, they would tell him he needed this additional document so he would find a ride go get the document return that the following day only to be told he needed an additional one.

So he finds a way to get that new document and returns the following day only to be told yup he needed more documents after he specifically asked the day before if there was anything else needed.  I personally witnessed this and would go on a stand in court to share this.

OMG here is a man worked all his life and he asks their incompetent employees "ok" is there anything else I need and each time they told him NO.  There are 5% of employees there that truly are caring but good luck getting them to be the person you work with.

Well, after the last trip he rolled back home.  Under the underpass then rolling back and forth across Broadway to get to the side walks. Next time you travel that way look around you and  imaging my friend's path home.  Not a pretty picture.

Things only got worse for him. He really need financial help and food stamps would have truly helped so he figured try again to get food stamps. Same crap.  He knew what documents were needed by now but now they say he needs more and they were different ones.

He was already reeling at how his life so drastically changed and the blows from that were enough, then to be treated with such disrespect was not helping any.

Then look at the building itself.  Inside it can't handle the number of folks coming in.  I know one employee he is a supervisor there and one of the few that have a heart of gold. You can find him attending all types of charitable events in the city one of the few like him working there. He said it was so much more horrible than the old place they all would gladly go back to the old building in a split second.

Isn't only McCarthy that has done such a questionable maneuver with our tax dollars 95% of the DSS department it's self is a real sick bunch of folks down there who are incompetent.

So along with McCarthy throw in Denis Packard the Commish he is no better.

The Gazette would never report the truth of this situation, investigate it  Put it in the headlines.

The county knows exactly what is happening there. They are well aware of it and they don't have the backbone to stand up and say hey something has to change.

The building choice and location seems like a blatant corruption but my opinions are not backed up in actual fact just based on the outcome of the decisions made in the relocation but who is going to investigate it.  Yup the folks involved in the scam.

Location of Sch’dy DSS
building couldn’t be worse

Re Sept. 29 letter, “DSS building location couldn’t be worse”: What the writer said was true about the location of the DSS [Department of Social Services] building on a main thoroughfare (Broadway).
It doesn’t take a genius to see that there is potential danger for all who visit the building and drive through that area, which is a two-lane road. Going to work in the city through this area, Monday through Friday, is a nightmare. And the wintertime! God help the motorist who is trying to avoid hitting someone, and trying to drive safely through the snow and ice.
The officials who approved of this should be the ones to police this area.

Thank you Lucille.

Located on a two lane and off a main highway. That's urban planning at its finest.

the government will soon distribute ATM cards(already have) for use at the MILLION DOLLAR LIBRARY and folks will just put it all on the computers there and not to mention the info transferred via the 'health clinics' (thanks to national
healthcare) ALLLLLLLLLLL those forms will be obsolete.....right now they just 'stuff' the system and keep jobs that we'll continue paying for (just like the welfare) after they retire until they frickin' die.....

ch-ch-ch-changes.....are coming....and FAST!

And, the latest I saw is that they removed a portion of the parking.  I guess you're just going to have to walk a distance or get on the bus to get to the wonderfully located palace.

Well how did you vote, Lucille?

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
