SCHENECTADY Police warrant pile is growing Despite efforts, hundreds of suspects at large BY KATHLEEN MOORE Gazette Reporter Reach Gazette reporter Kathleen Moore at 395-3120 or moore@dailygazette.com.
The police are losing ground in their search for criminals who never showed up in court. Three years ago, they began working on a 20-year backlog of unserved warrants. At the time, they hadn’t found 200 residents accused of felonies and another 800 accused of misdemeanors. Most were suspects who never turned themselves in and could not be found by police. Since 2008, the police changed their policies, gave patrol offi cers packets of warrants to serve on a regular basis, searched for new addresses of long-lost suspects and even eliminated warrants that were so old they had passed the statute of limitations. But now they’re looking for even more people than when they started. They need to find 247 suspected felons, as well as trying to serve 918 misdemeanor warrants. Some date back to 1990. Many more are new: more than half of the felonies are from the past 20 months. “It’s a continuing challenge,” said Assistant Police Chief Patrick Leguire. One detective’s only assignment is to investigate aggravated assaults related to domestic violence, and he has personally taken on the warrants associated with those assaults. “Many times he’ll go out and specifically look for offenders,” Leguire said. The department also does warrant sweeps when it receives grants for the special operations. .................>>>>..................>>>>....................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01100&AppName=1

So in 2008 McCarthy asked for an accounting of all the unserved warrants and 3 years later, not much has improved.
Doesn't speak much to the Renaissance. |

Sure it does - it's a perfect example of "ignoring it and maybe it'll go away". All is blissful in Renaisschenectady ... Two blocks of State St are booming, adult bookstores are moving, taxes will only go up X% ... it's all good, if you don't talk about it. |

Sounds like the pit bull, gang and abandoned property problems. Keep looking the other way. Until you are a City "leader" trying to sell your property. Than cold reality hits. No one wants any property in The Pit Bull City. And all the lies about job creation can't change that. |

Maybe they should just go ahead and release the list of names of people they're looking for. Some may turn themselves in, others could be turned in by people who know them. They print names of people who are late with their taxes, why not wanted felons? |

crime will increase because the bar is lowered and the gangstas flee west and north.....and those in 'leadership' dont have bars to raise just pillows to fluff......because they have to..... |
