Those loopholes you mention, food, clothing, heat, etc can be done automatically right at the checkout counter the same way its done for tax free clothing periods and food stamps now. Use the IRS goons to enforce the VAT requirements for the major retailers. Corporate taxes will not be so easy to apply a VAT too. they may have to stay on the income tax, just reduce the exemptions to a minimum.

Tbird,
The VAT sounds easy but it's complicated.  The result of a VAT would tax dollars made by goods sold by one system and it would tax dollars made by bank transactions by another.  Much of the VAT is added to sales of items, but there is different standards, or no tax at all, to things like capital gains tax, or interest income.

Many charities would simply go out of business (for good or for bad) when a value added tax is implemented since charitable donations would not be deductible.
Home ownership was possible for many people only because of tax deductions... eliminating them would mean a huge shift in home ownership, increased rent prices, and falling construction jobs.

Like I posted earlier, there is a long ranging effect of the VAT that isn't apparent at first glance.  It's not a simple change would no doubt put many companies out of business and change America in ways not easily perceived.

For profit healthcare doesn't work he said, so under his utopia doctors work for free and drug makers can make no profit, kinda goes against all the union protests which demand better pay and coverage

What union has better pay and benefits than 'government unions'!! And the unions would never have to worry about healthcare or any other 'private business' going out of business. Since the country has no more industry to speak of, the unions are looking anywhere they can to settle in and take over labor negotiations in exchange for 'union fees'. If the government takes over healthcare..which they have...and take over the pharmaceutical industry..which they have...the unions will then have their 'union fee base'. And the government will NOT go out of business since they have an ever flow of taxpayer's money to keep them afloat.

Nah...the unions and government are in lock step with this move. Everyone who works in any aspect of health care will all be unionized eventually. That's the plan!

The Boston Patriot is a douchebag.. he spent more time berating Fox news and talking about Birth Certificate-gate as he did about social injustice. His stats are a little off too, he says 99% aren't talking about what Fox News is talking about.. well, he better brush up on the current news ratings.
To believe his showing was spontaneous is to believe the Mets will win the World series next year.. and I'm a Mets fan.

When times are bad, a good segment of our population want to have government swoop in and take care of everything. See Russia 1917 and China 1949.

~ People who make no income, pay no taxes.  That is just a fact of life.  If you have none, you can pay none.
~ People with little income pay little, but with the same tax deductions that we all get, their tax burden is less than their deductions, so they pay none.
~ People with huge deductions pay little of none, depending on their circumstances.  A rich man or poor man who's deductions exceed his tax, will pay none.
~ People who are rich and hide their wealth overseas or in tax write off investments, or have 'creative accountants',  pay little or none.

~ That leaves people like me, who take my income, subtract my deductions and pay my fair share.  If we all did that the USA would not be in this financial mess.

the people who make no income pay no taxes AND get free assistance
the people with little income pay little taxes AND get free assistance

rule #5....make them think you care and will 'assist them'

as for the deductions...JOKE
I dont care if you take your money overseas

GET RID OF INCOME TAX......tax as you go/purchase

OR....make a flat tax

rule #20.....confuse the hell out of the sheople so they argue amongst themselves and start class warfare....why? because it's easy to buy friends/votes, with a flip of the switch.....

I dont see any democrat saying they care so much that they are going to sell 4 out of their 6 homes and sell their plane and 3 out of 5 of their cars, and get rid of their housekeepers
they wont take their 'fair share' and spread it around....what a joke....BOTH PARTIES.....

this goes well beyond money as we know it and the current system.....ch-ch-ch-changes are coming......

anyone know how you purchase Xbox games? how about Wii games? how about using apps to purchase in the stores? anyone? anyone?.....who knows your credit score? how about your healthscore?
anyone? anyone?........

occupy wallstreet is a diversion and they will be moulded into the 'future' of the economic system and really....NOTHING will change....it will just feel like it did....the 'rich' are trying to set the
new way of virtual value as we sit here and complain about the 'rich' and the 'poor'.....

have you ever seen so many overweight 'poor folk'???????

The unions are as predictable as the sun rising.

Like anything else they touch, they will ruin the movement and just use it as a recruiting tool...
So typical...

He places responsibility on people without promising a bed of roses or feel good campfire songs.......unfortunately I'm sure he's not liked by the strong arms in charge, regardless of party.....he can blow up their skirts and we can all
see their baggage and half-truths and lies and ear tickling for what they are......what do we think will happen?

will the truth seekers win?

or will the ear ticklers win?

Russ Feingold:
“This is like the Tea Party — only it’s real... Occupy Wall St. ‘will make the tea party look like a tea party"

“I’m really encouraged by what I’m seeing. People around the country are finally organizing to stand up to the huge influence of corporations on government and our lives. This kind of citizen reaction to corporate power and corporate greed is long overdue.”

“The guys who are protesting are not filing legal briefs,” he said. “They are expressing the populist, genuine view that people have been ripped off. It’s a fundamental identification of the fact that people are getting taken for a ride by powerful interests who are getting away with murder.”
