McCarthy supporters erroneously say he quit his day job September 18, 2011 at 5:23 pm by Lauren Stanforth, Staff writer
The Schenectady County Chairman of the Conservative Party, Randy Pascarella, sent a mailer to all city Conservative voters encouraging them to mark the endorsed candidate, Democrat and Acting Mayor Gary McCarthy, during the Sept. 13 primary. Challenger and third-party member Roger Hull unsuccessfully tried to mount a write-in campaign on that and two other lines.
The flyer said that McCarthy is a “former investigator in the DA’s office.” There is one problem: McCarthy is still an investigator. He has only gone on leave to campaign for mayor, McCarthy confirmed Sunday.
Also, it says “Gary McCarthy is a leader in working with the private sector to create jobs – actions which have created over 4,000 new private sector jobs and attracted over $400 million in new investment.”
Voters will be seeing this economic development stuff tied to McCarthy’s campaign a lot because he used to be on the Metroplex Development Authority board. But McCarthy said it’s more like 3,600 jobs, not 4,000. (How Metroplex arrives at that number we don’t know, but we’ve see it a lot – like in Susan Savage’s failed bid for State Senate last year, too).
