My best friend for over 40 yrs. (forever to be known in these forums as "Conservative Bob" has 2 sons. Younger son Jamie enlisted in the Army on 9/13/2001. He did 2 tours in Iraq with the 4th ID. After he left the Military he worked for private contractors spending nearly 3 years in Afghanistan (not all at once, 6 months at time). After he returned from his last trip and experiencing some truly frightening moments, his best friend convinced him not to go back. I think his exact words to Jamie were "I don't want to find out you were blown up." So they started what is turning out to be a very successful firearms company in Austin. "Conservative Bob" is very happy that he no longer has to spend sleepless nights worrying about his youngest son. But.................eldest son Josh is now also in the military (National Guard Texas), a medic serving in Afghanistan. He and Bob came to visit me a couple of days ago. He had been on leave but was going back overseas today. It was good to see him 'cause he's also my godson. As he left I hollered the same words I shouted to his brother years ago. "Keep your head down." I hope he does.  |

First, and foremost, I hope he comes home safe.
Josh is already a hero, because medics run through fire fights, to help people with unspeakable injuries, and that takes balls of stainless steel. |

Thank you to these 2 young men and their families. We appreciate the service that they give, and know how difficult it is every moment they are gone for their families, not being able to know, moment by moment, what is happening with their family member overseas. Hopefully he will only be there for a short time and can come home safely. |
