BS is not an honest citizen, nor an investigative reporter.. I will give chops to MC Hammer , but to no one else.

BS is a fool, and worse, he is a fool of the GOP ... he will say and do anything to discredit hard working honest citizens

According to state data, sales tax receipts are at record levels -- $68 million in 2004 versus $85 million in 2008. There are more Schenectady residents working -- in jobs both inside and outside of the county -- than five years ago: 71,300 in 2004 versus 72,100 in the second quarter of 2008.

And there are more people living in the county than five years ago: 148,000 in 2004 versus 151,000 in 2008.

In a tightening recession, developers and businesses continue to move forward with the construction of around 700,000 square feet of commercial, retail and office space in Schenectady, all of it financed. The work includes the largest office building in the Capital Region, the Golub Co. headquarters on Nott Street.

To Schenectady County Legislator Gary Hughes, D-Schenectady, that spells success.

"I get around the state a bit, particularly around upstate. In the places I go, I don't see the level of construction activity that I see here. That is a testament to what Metroplex has accomplished," he said. He is director of communications for MVP.

The downsides are that unemployment and poverty are up.

Unemployment was 6 percent in December 2008 versus 4.3 percent in December 2004. But unemployment is up everywhere because of the recession, said Leif Engstrom, program manager for the Capital District Regional Planning Commission.

Sales tax levels are up, only because of gas prices being the highest we've ever seen and the price of groceries and staples going through the roof - in addition to the almost $4 per pack tax on cigarettes

Obviously  MC is mentally ill

Why do you say that?   You are obviously desparate to fine some way to discredit the truth because you despise hearing the truth about how the bad it has gotten for the homeowners in the city since the dems socialized downtown and raped the homeowners financially.  And you know darn well that it's bad in the city and that is precisely why you will not buy a house in the city, nor even rent an apartment in the city.   Mortgage rates at all time lows, houses can be purchased for big bargains.   If you really believed the city was improving, you would buy how and gain as time goes on, but it is obvious you have seen the facts and you know that even low mortgage rates and low prices isn't worth moving into the city

Because I tell the truth?????      The hundreds of jobs at DOT WERE there all along, just at a different address.     And tell us DV, how many DOT employees bought  a house in Schenectady city and are paying taxes?????    Huh DV?????    Tell us.

The jobs at Marcellas, they WERE in the county, just a few hundred feet up on Crane St.

The jobs at the bakery, thety WERE there, just at a different location.

The jobs at MVP....they have been in the city since the early 1980's, just over on Union Street

The jobs at Key Bank, they were there, just a few hundred feet away.

The jobs at Price Chopper's corporate offices, those jobs were there a few miles down the road in Rotterdam.

The jobs at the Y, they were moved from another block of State St.

OK, so there are the dishwashers, the maids, the ticket takers, the popcorn makers.   These jobs are at locations that were built primarily with taxpayer money, AND the homeowners are paying the property and school taxes on the buildings, AND the employees are for certain being subsidized with various forms of public assistance because even a single individual cannot live on a minimum wage job.

So, DV., tell us what NEW jobs were created for which the employees in them can buy a house AND pay taxes in the city.   Well?????   Have you got an answer AND proof?   Of course not

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.
Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and
speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

I love the arbitrary date selection.  Why not measure employment from the inception of Metroplex until the most current date?  Let's look at January 99 to July 11.  That would be 69,523 and 69,798 - and for shits and giggles let’s look at pre-metroplex - June 1990 = 73,997.  Wow, how's that possible?

Let's face the facts, Metroplex and centrally planned economic policy did nothing in Schenectady County except pick the winners and losers in business and put a lot of people that played by the rules out of business and made others wealthy.  Oh yeah...And the businesses that benefitted made sure the fascist leaders in government stayed in power.

Next time, just make it 4,000,000. Then they will have try harder to "prove it isn't true." That is how democraps operate, they sleep lies, they wake up lies, the eat a breakfast of lies and go about the day enshrouded in lies. But lies apparently work.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

The village idiot cites 2008 data! Was McCarthy Mayor then? McCarthy has been caught by the media lying about creating 4,000 "private sector" DOWNTOWN jobs. All the foaming at the mouth does not equal another job. The mailer did exist, it is in the hands of the media and the Alliance Party and the usual idiots here are still idiots.

Not totally true...  They stole some of these jobs right from Rotterdam.  They used to have an office in R.I.P. prior to getting their current establishement to bring their offices together (which they now, ironically aren't even fully together downtown, as they have offices in their building @ Nott Terrace and some in Center City).

There is still the one million dollar empty building (with parking garage) they left abandoned in the Stockade on Union Street. Since they left nothing has been there.

Thank you Metroplex.

The old MVP Building-what did Gary Hughes say about that one?

How many jobs did McCarthy create at the old Trustco HQ on Erie?

It is a fact that CENTER CITY is being filled with the 'y' from down the road....sccc from down the road. And if anyone is seeking a place to work out where there is little or no people there.....go to the 'y' down town....EMPTY!!

Price choppers office complex is just a transplant....as is the 'appliance store'....as is the 'desert store'.....as is 1/2 of MVP. They 'use' to pay taxes........not so anymore. = FAIL!!

Anyone been to the bow tie???? EMPTY.......all the time!

It is a fact that sales tax revenue are up due to the higher gas prices, cigarette taxes and the general cost of inflation. The prices on everything has increased.

How is the mortgage tax doing? How many folks are now on the 'delinquent tax' roll?

What county has the highest taxes in the state???

The plex is a TOTAL and COMPLETE failure to say the least. It should be abolished!!

The city can't control crime......how does anyone expect them to control DOGS??

What CEO received an illegal Star exemption for 'rental property'?

Who was the last elected official that failed miserably after her campaign ads boasted of the 'schenectady miracle'? She was basically laughed out of Schenectady.

Who was the last elected official that failed miserably in an election only to find himself in a created patronage job at $80K+/year? Everybody remember that failed and illegal sex offender law?

Who was the last mayor who knew he could never win re-election and was given a no-brain political state position with the canal corp?

How many shooters are still at large?

How many Hamilton hills now grace schenectady?

When was the last time the folks in the dss line were told that that IS there new job?

How's the plex workin' out for ya folks?

How's Gary McCarthy working out for ya folks?
