It is easy to say that the current CVS building is adequate -- but they have determined that it is NOT .. and they are looking for a new site. So -- the intelligent thing for Rotterdam to do would be to HELP them find a new site WITHIN the town.
Also, many of the existing commercial buildings are too small or otherwise inadequate for 21st century commercial operations --- WE MUST BE FORWARD THINKING .. STOP LIVING IN THE PAST. The other thought is that if we continue to do what we have always done (in Rotterdam's case run new development out of town) we will continue to get what we have always got -- which is NO NEW TAX BASE, HIGHER TAXES and a FURTHER DECLINE in our way of life.
Well, as it was stated at the meeting last night, why not have them rebuild on site, as they're doing in Niskayuna (and to add to the comments of last night, State Street, also). Or, how about the gentleman who stated that maybe they could build over at Curry Road Shopping Plaza, you know the place that has been vacant for going on 24 years? |

I think one issue with CVS is if they are not content with whatever current locatino they have, then they will not reinvest to rebuld at that site; and secondly, if they move they want to move across from/very close to their competition.....it's jsut the way these companies operate today. |

I think that 4 Corners is a GREAT location for a CVS. |

I don't think anyone is really against a cvs at that corner. CVS just needs to go back to the drawing board and scale it down anduse the property that is already zoned commercial. Not a big deal here.
This request is nothing new to cvs or any other chain store. And they usually accommodate the municipality. So rotterdam can see what cvs comes back with. |

They pretty much do what they want and forget the little guy....I miss the owner operated pharmacies where
you were considered a friend as well as a customer. and just like the old barber shops...chit chat while waiting.

We used to have pharmacies like that. The tanning salon on Altamont Ave by Towne Bowling used to be a pharmacy with a video rental place in the front of it. That closed when the main pharmacist (Alan Beck) took a job and his business and moved into the Hannaford just down the street. There also used to be the Draper Pharmacy that was across the street from what used to be the Rotterdam Branch of the library on Guilderland Ave. As far as the "old barber shops," there's still some of them around. Personally, I have just started going to Renato's on Mariaville Rd. There's also Dom's that still survives right next to Hess on Helderberg Ave. Besides that, it's off to a salon of some sort. |

As much as I would like to see a return to the small-town owner run pharmacies and other businesses ... the fact is that this is not likely to happen anytime soon. You would be hard pressed to find owner run pharmacies in even the largest cities, most affluent cities in the US. At some point, we have to be realistic and accept the new reality -- and stop waiting for the "good old days" to magically return.
I still get my hair cut at Ray's Barber Shop in Mont Pleasant --- when he retires I'll have to find a barber in Rotterdam. |

I predict that there will be a CVS at 4 corners..... but it will be where Rite-Aid currently sits. |

People need to explore the role that Price Chopper is playing in this effort to stop the new CVS --- Price Chopper stopped the Wal-Green's project and is trying to stop the CVS project.
I am boycotting Price Chopper until the new CVS is approved at 4 Corners. |
