To the first part of your statement, I respectfully disagree with your opinion.

To the second part of your statement, you are just out and out lying .. no "accusations" were made to the residents.

and as for the first part that you disagree with my opinion....you disagree with THE MAJORITY!
I thought you professed making decisions based on listening to all sides of a discussion....you did not display any of that in this decision process.

Headaches from too many drugstores

Re Feb. 9 article, “CVS plan for store at Guilderland, Curry returns,” in which CVS Pharmacy’s proposal for a store at the corner of Guilderland Avenue and Curry Road was debated by residents in the area: Although I do not live in the Rotterdam area, as a 16-year-old living in the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake area, I am finding the same issue is occurring here.
This area is overpopulated with similar businesses in close proximity (i.e. car dealerships, drugstores and fast food). So before allowing another business in the area that will most likely shut a different business down, speak up to the Town Board.
What businesses would you like to see enter our little Burnt Hills community? Hopefully, something that will benefit it in the long run.

“The thing that concerns me is that the opposition seems to be … isn’t that they are objecting it to being a retail business, but they are objecting to it being a CVS,” Severson said.
You accused them of being negative becuase it is a CVS instead of hearing their comppaints were about the issues around having a big box store.  And the people in attendace shouted "NO".......how can you not understand that?

I listened to BOTH sides.   I considered the issues raised by BOTH sides.   And I made a decision.   A decision that I am completely comfortable with and have absolutely no regrets about.  This is a democracy and people are allowed to disagree with one another ---- and yes, even disagree with you.

HOW CAN YOU NOT UNDERSTAND THAT ?

Ummm... you might want to check that again.  If you lived in a democracy, you wouldn't be sitting on the Planning Commission, you idiot.  I'm not going to tell you the type of government we live under, you might want to look that up.  If we lived under a democracy, the entire zoning (and everything else happening everywhere) would be put up to a vote.  It wasn't, it was put in front of the town board and planning commission.

And to quote the only person who couldn't see the Big Business Box Store through the miniature amount of revenue that would be coming in to destroy a neighborhood,
HOW CAN YOU NOT
UNDERSTAND THAT ?

In America, the minority has the same rights as the majority.

However, I would suggest that no one knows whether a majority of ALL the town residents were in favor or were opposed to the proposal.  In the last few months, I have heard from numerous residents who supported the proposal.

Furthermore, the applicant has the right to be heard, too.

Oh -- by the way -- you should be looking at yourself in the mirror when you make your accusations.  One could very easily say that You only listened to YOUR side of any argument -- you have certainly given much evidence of that ----- and have been proven OBJECTIVELY wrong on NUMEROUS OCCASIONS when you have insisted on denying ACTUAL, VERIFIABLE  FACTS.    Whereas, the decision whether to recommend or not recommend rezoning is a SUBJECTIVE decision .. there is no absolute right or wrong answer.

I do look in the mirror everyday and am very comfortable with the fact that I am a contributing member of society that is objective enough to listen to all sides and offer my position, but in the end am willing to move forward with the majority....something we do in private sector everyday in order tio be succesful in business...something you know nothing about.  And just for the recored, I support rezoning and devlopment of that corner...just not the big-bog, traffic clogging, neighborhood encroachment that was before you!!!

YOU ARE TALKING OUT YOUR A$$ AGAIN...I'VE ASKED YOU TO PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR DOZENS OF YOUR CLAIMS AS HAVE OTHERS AND YOU JUST SKIRT THE ISSUES....YOU ATTCK MY CREDIBILITY WHEN I TELL YOU WHAT I DO FOR A LIVING OR EXPEREINCED AND CLAIM THAT I LIE BECUASE I DON'T GIVE YOU PERSONAL DETAIL STO SUPPORT THEM...YOU PROVIDE GOOGLED OLD DATA TO BACK YOUR SILLY CLAIMS....YOU MAKE COMPLETELY SELF-PROMOTING CLAIMS ABOUT YOURSELF AND YOUR KNOWLEDGE AND CAN'T/DON'T SUPPORT THEM....YOU ARE A SELF-DIRECTED, WANNABE THAT THINKS HE KNOWS EVERYTHING.
YOU MET DAVID COOK'S BROTHER WHEN HE VISITED SOME COUSIN WHEN YOU WRE THERE!!
YOU MET WITH STRATTON WHEN HE WAS FLYING ON A PLANE WITH THE PRES.
YOU'VE BEEN AROUND THE WORKD AND ARE A WORLD CLASS CHED THAT KNOWS MORE ABOUT THE ORIGIN OF FOOD THAN THE PEOPLE WHO ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR IT
.......I'LL STOP THERE BECUASE THE LIST IS TOO DAMN LONG.

YOU DON'T EVEN BELONG IN A DECISION MAKING POSITION BECUASE YOU HAVE NO FINANCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY OR CONTRIBUTION TO THE DECISIONS BEING DISCUSSED.

I'm a little late to the party, but I have a few questions..

first, according to what I have read, five houses have to be demolished as part of this project.
What is the status of these houses? Are they occupied? Do the owners want to sell? or is the town going to go the eminent domain route?

Since CVS is going to close the Broadway and five corners stores if this goes through, what is the gain for the town? All it looks like is they are rearranging the deck chairs...one empty eyesore filled and another one created.

Is it really worth it to pull traffic through a previously residential neighborhood because of an eyesore?
do we really want two drugstores across the street from each other? What if one fails and moves out? Then you have ANOTHER eyesore in town... It seems to me the majority of the planning board actually thought about PLANNING this time around.... lets hope the town board does the same.

The fact is that the "nayboobs" like Joeboxr and Rampage would have found some reason to attack my vote even if I had voted the way they wanted.    They have proven this on numerous occasions on this website when they have insulted and attacked me EVEN WHEN I AGREED WITH THEM.

And for the record - I respect the opinion and decision made by EVERY person who came to a different conclusion.

So - I answered the questions in a sincere gesture of good faith -- and they have chosen to be unreasonable and continue their unwarranted and purely partisan personal attacks.  I am through with this topic -- in this venue.

DVOR, you choose not to listen. It was stated that the residents were not against development of the EXISTING commercial space. They are opposed to the change in zoning of the 4 residential properties.  If a smaller business or strip mall was to be proposed that would use the existing commercially zoned properties, residents would be much more cooperative.

I will only answer the first questions:
All of the property owners (of the affected houses) signed letters in support of the proposal.  They wanted to sell.  Eminent domain had NOTHING to do with this project.

And end by repeating --- EVERY member of the board listened to both sides and considered ALL of the planning issues and - in the end - it is possible for reasonable and intelligent people to reach different decisions on the matter.

I don't usually respond to hamburg/dvor's posts, and usually don't even read them. But since I had to follow the train of posting here.....I personally found no issue with dvor's vote in favor of the cvs. It was dvor's independent vote. That is what dvor is there for....yes?

HOWEVER...........I do take issue with the fact that dvor labels everyone on this forum who was not in favor of this cvs project 'as proposed'....a NAYBOOB!!! So we can assume that dvor considers 'all' those on the planning board who voted 'no' also NAYBOOBS.....yes?

The planning board had the same concerns as most of those who questioned this development from the start. You can't have it both ways.

Ron, answer this one question....how could you and why would you make this comment.  What information did you have that the residents were basically oppossed because it was CVS?
Wasn't this disrespectful to the residents and other board members of whom none felt this way...and hurtful enough to the residents that they felt compelled to speak up and say "NO" when you made the comment.

For the record --- I never said that anyone who was not in favor was a nayboob.   The nayboobs are people like Joebxr and Rampage who NO MATTER HOW I VOTED ON THE ISSUE would have use it as an opportunity to launch into insults and personal attacks on me.

I FULLY RESPECT the decision made by those members who voted in favor of the negative recommendation,  I  FULLY RESPECT the opinion of the neighbors who didn't want the CVS.     But I also happen to fully respect and agree with the opinions voiced by many residents- who supported the proposal - who approached me and I happen to respect the points raised by those representing the applicant.

My final words on the subject in this venue -- I made a good faith effort to sincerely answer the questions in this venue.   I will not dignify the cheap shots and insults and lies and misrepresentations  hurled at and about me  by further attempting to discuss this issue in this venue.   If you are a resident and wish to CIVILLY and REASONABLY discuss the issue --- call town hall, leave your name and number .. and I will make arrangements to meet you.
