CVS could also look at the corner of Duanesburg Rd & Burdeck St down where the motel used to be.  Plenty of room to set up off-street parking, and not too far from the old location.  Also, this would draw the Duanesburg / Princetown people, even though 5 Corners is still the closest to them if they don't move.

There are many places for a cvs.......but the fact remains that ALL new development will be hard pressed since the entire town is nothing more then 2 lane streets. All mixed with business and residential neighborhoods that are packed to capacity. However, the west end is still prime. Stewarts on the corner of burdeck and mariaville does a hell of a business. That should be a retailersfirst clue.....yes?

During the meeting last night CVS divuldged that they are not rebuilding at 5 corners as it was too expensive to buy the Taylor Vadney building.  Real redevelopment will not happen at a possible vacant CVS building at 5 corners without the TV property.

BS that it's to expensive to buy the T-V building!!!!!!!!!!     The town CAN seize the building!!!!!    It IS delinquent in taxes!!!!!!!!

For crying out loud, it's owned by the biggest tax delinquent in Schenectady county, by the guy whose demolition of his burned out building in the city had to be paid for by the city taxpayers, by the guy who an animal abuser.

Oh, wait, the dems will NOT take his property, they will just keep letting him make money without paying taxes.   The taxpayers will cover his expenses thanks to the dems!!!!!!!!

The controversy continues over the plan for CVS to buy property and put in a new store in Rotterdam.

The drugstore chain is hoping to rezone a partially residential area to build a CVS on the corner of Curry Road and Guilderland Avenue.

Tuesday, the planning board voted against rezoning, but the town board will have the final say.

If approved, some homes will have to be torn down to build the new store.

Some residents aren't thrilled with the idea.

They say they are concerned about an increase in tractor trailers and other commercial traffic moving through residential areas.

Again, the town board has the final say on the issue.

I read that article today and can't help but think that this thing is going to pass the town board 3-2!

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

Can't believe that Rhonda had the nerve to make these comments in front of the public and neighbors at the meeting...but I guess it should have been expected.  OPEN MOUTH INSERT FOOT...what a total DUMBA$$! Now public people know they have a stupid member of the planning committee they need to keep an eye on!

Commission member Ronald Severson was the only member voting against the negative resolution.
He said the retail landscape is changing and stores are requiring larger footprints.
“The thing that concerns me is that the opposition seems to be … isn’t that they are objecting it to being a retail business, but they are objecting to it being a CVS,” Severson said.
Neighborhood residents in attendance called out “no” after hearing Severson’s remark.

Update: The Rotterdam Town Board on Wednesday, Feb. 22, did not take any action on the Planning Commission's negative recommendation for the zoning change. Supervisor Harry Buffardi said the board is expecting to vote on the rezone during its next meeting on Wednesday, March 14.

#Buffardi said the board wanted to have more time to discuss the proposal.

the town board delayed the vote to allow the freshness of the planning board's thumbs down to wane.

I too feel that this project will pass the board, 3-2.

Also, the Dep Supevisor stated to a newssource on Tuesday night that he hadn't made his decision on what he was going to do.  Also, he did NOT disclose that he wouldn't be present at the town board meeting Wednesday due to the fact that he was leaving early Wednesday for a week-long vacation.  He was asked how he would vote on this if it came up Wednesday and he had no answer, he hadn't decided.  He probably had decided before that his suitcases were already packed, therefore he didn't have to give an answer on Wednesday, so he wouldn't give an answer Tuesday night.

I will never understand politics....
Residents have spoken against it (right or wrong, they are taxpayers and I realize you will always have those saying NO)
It has been voted down in past and sent back to drawing board
Planning Committee has had meeting (well televised, thankfully) and after listening to eerything and evaluating the situation, all bu DumbA$$ said NO.
How and why would the TC vote to accept it?  And if they do, then what is the value of having a Planning Committee?

I JUST DON'T GET ANY OF IT!

ROTTERDAM
Planners dislike CVS idea, advise rejection by town

BY JUSTIN MASON Gazette Reporter

Reach Gazette reporter Justin Mason at 395-3113 or jmason@dailygazette.net.

The town Planning Commission won’t endorse a controversial zone change request that would allow CVS Pharmacy to build a new store next to a residential area on Lawndale Avenue.
The commission agreed to send a negative recommendation to the Town Board, which will ultimately decide whether to ratify the zone change. CVS is proposing to change the zoning on four residential properties so that the company can construct a two-story, 13,225-square-foot building on the vacant lot of the former First Class Products building near the intersection of Guilderland Avenue and Curry Road.
Ron Severson was the only commission member to offer support for the rezoning. He expressed concern that the commercial corner at the bustling intersection could remain vacant unless the zoning is expanded to incorporate part of the adjacent neighborhood on Lawndale.
“This corner has been empty now for over three years,” he said prior to the vote. “The only way that corner is going to be marketable is if we recommend the rezone.”
But the rest of the commission didn’t agree, questioning the impact a large CVS would have on the already problematic traffic patterns at the intersection. Commission chairman Tom Yuille said the neighborhoods near the intersection already deal with vehicles cutting through the residential area to avoid traffic congestion at the intersection.
“To me, there are three major issues on this project: Traffi c, traffi c and traffic,” he said. “It’s a nightmare there.”
In building the new store, CVS is planning to consolidate operations at locations on Broadway and at Rotterdam’s Five Corners intersection. Company offi cials said both of the existing leased locations would close once the new building is complete.
Plans to build the new store would require transforming part of what has long been a residential area. CVS is proposing to demolish three small homes on Lawndale Avenue and four on Curry Road, in addition to a dilapidated mixed-use building that has remained vacant for more than three years.
The new store and 80-spot parking lot would cover a total of 76,000 square feet.
The building would include a two-lane drive-thru, an entrance on Curry Road and a left turn exit on Lawndale Avenue.
Traffic studies suggest the new building will drastically increase the number of vehicle trips through the area — by the estimate of CVS, about 880 more per day. ..................................>>>>................................>>>>..................................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01701&AppName=1

"Calder voted against sending the project to the commission twice before changing his stance last month. He wouldn’t say whether he supports the zone change following the commission’s vote.
“We’ll have to wait and see,” he said afterward. "

Why does WC need to 'wait and see" ???     He stated at the 2/8 TB meeting that he would rely on the Planning Commission's decision.   Now he has to wait and see what someone tells him to do?    Puppet!

Because then he can't be held responsible for it now.

No, I have different opinion....for him to voice his YAH or NAH at this point before the meeting would be totally wrong. He should not comment one way or another until this comes before the TC...that is the right thing to do!

Just remember what happened with  trucks in Schenectady, on Kings Rd.    The constant driving was causing damage to peoples homes.   We knew someone in the city who since moved away, that school buses driving over their street caused enough shaking that they got cracks in their ceiling.

So, imagine the huge delivery trucks, what damage they can do.

And DV had the nerve to be the lone vote in favor of incresing traffic, endangering the lives of children, and putting heavy trucks on small residential streets!    And that will all cause the values of the homes there to go down.    Of course, DV has no intelligence in these matters, he has never been a homeonwers, has never experienced dealing wtih having the value of your house go down, doesn't have a loving wife with whom to take nice walks in nice neighborhood like that, doesn't have children to be concerned with safety wise.   And how about the nice family togetherness taking a walk from the neighborhood there to walk to Curry Freeze for an ice cream - with heavy traffic from CVS?

What kind of brain would EVER put the lives of innocent humans in such jeopardy and make recommendations that can cause the reduction of home values?
