Mertz will soon be added to the roster of those whose names we shall not repeat. His sneaky attempts to run his candidate against a sitting judge brings shame on our town. There is no reason to ever challenge a sitting judge and some would say it is an attempt to influence the fairness of the judicial system itself to run any kind of race against a non-partisan jurist. Hopefully some day all judges will be appointed by a judicial convention made up of the hard working members of the Bar, and-or the Governor so as to keep newcomers ...with no experience in the law or the criminal justice system.... OUT of making a mess of our courts. Screw John Mertz---may be rot in a heap of stag's dung. What he has done to our town is an atrocity--- and it serves us fair warning as to the desires of newcomers from outside the county and what their true and evil agenda is.

Salvatore II...as usual no one knows what your talking about...including your alter ego. We're supposed to run candidates against sitting incumbents
in all positions....it's called ELECTIONS.

And if you want to talk about "newcomers" from "outside the county"....ask your buddies Jasenski and Angelo about their petition carriers from NYC,
Suffolk and Oneida Counties.

One final note on "experience"...Kevin Mercoglan was a jeweler when he was first elected....Jim Bradshaw spent his entire career in law enforcement, and
a distinguished one at that...you know, one of those "first responders" you're always praising.

What Law Degree Do You Need to Become a Judge?

By Jessica Furgerson, eHow Contributor

Print this article

On the state and federal level, hundreds of judges serve the public on a daily basis. These judges serve on municipal courts as well as the Supreme Court. However, the degree requirements for each position may differ slightly.

Municipal Courts

The lowest branch of courts in the United States is known as the municipal court circuit and includes magistrates and town judges. To hold one of these judge positions, individuals are not required to hold a law degree, but rather need only a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

State Courts

At the state level, courts with statewide jurisdiction as well as appellate power exist. To be appointed as a judge at the state level, individuals must hold a bachelor's degree as well as a juris doctor, or law degree. Additionally, judges at the state level must have passed the bar exam in their state.

Federal Judges

Federal judges serving in the various appellate courts around the United States are required to hold a bachelor's degree as well as a juris doctor. Individuals need not be actively practicing lawyers at the time of their appointment to the court.

The point is.......anyone can run for any office if they so choose. In this case, I'm very surprised at the outcome of the rotterdam judges primary. I guess this means that whoever wins the primary wins in november....yes?

Bumble, I am confused. Which primary do you think will predict the winner? I understand there were multiple primaries.

The last time that I looked -- there is NO requirement that a Town or Village Justice be a member of the bar association.

Judge Mercoglan has done a great job and deserves to be reelected.

I should note that his opponent should have double-checked the proofs for his campaign signs --- you may notice that this candidate included the Scales of Justice on his signs which is admirable except for the fact that they are UNBALANCED.  Is he sending us a subliminal message of some sort ???????

He should have checked that as much as Bill Cooke should have checked ALL of the signs that went out for him, considering half of them have his NAME spelled wrong, but let's worry about some scales on signs, instead.  Is Bill Cook challenging Bill Cooke for the Supervisor position?

You would have to ask someone who actually gives a damn that Bill Cooke is running.  He is NOT one of the endorsed candidates of my party -- I have no connection to him or his campaign.

Angelo needs to distance himself from TJ hooker

Results show a disparity between support for two endorsed candidates

That is just the disparity of the bullet vote. The same thing happened on Town Board line as well with Angelo's Uncle. Dumbocraps got the same thing in the 2005 county dist 4 race where they brought in a turncoat republican. Believe me, it is real!
