The Fire District is required each year to adopt a budget subject to the Town Law. The Town Board, which collects the taxes through your annual tax bill, cannot routinely overrule this budget. The tax rate is established based upon the budget and assessed value of all properties located within the district. The tax monies provide funds for firefighting, fire apparatus, equipment, insurance, physical examinations, service awards (retirement), construction and maintenance of the fire station. During the past 40 years the Fire District, through judicious use of reserve funds, has not borrowed money to purchase any firefighting apparatus. Our current state-of-the-art fleet of vehicles was bought without paying any interest. This accomplishment has saved thousands of taxpayer dollars over the years. All property owners in the Fort Hunter Fire District currently pay a fire tax of approximately $1.00 per each thousand dollars of assessed value. This tax rate is one of the lowest in the Town and has remained fairly constant over the last 10 years, even as services have increased and firefighting expenses have skyrocketed. The Fire District has received several grants used to offset tax dollars for purchase and replacement of important equipment. We will continue to pursue any grant money that we are eligible to receive. http://www.forthunterfd.org/di.....p; |

Apparently some districts are more intuned to the taxpayers and smarter for sure. although we have heard from some of the pine grove firefighters themselves who said that they would present the proposal again in a few years when the economy picks up. These firefighters live in this same taxing district and they actually understand where the taxpayers are coming from. Good for them. |

This is going to be blamed on those who believe that the Fire Department didn't need the extra money, maybe part of it would have taken care of this with automatically fixing flat tires on trucks while they were out on a call. |

The Rotterdam Republicans/No New Tax partiers -- and in the city the likes of Zollinger, Hull and Riggi want to slash and eradicate the budgets of all vital public services --- the first on their hit list are ALL public safety services including public funding for police, fire and rescue/ambulance service ................... therefore these folks must be held liable and accountable for every failure and problem in our public safety system. |

I would say that they are diametrically opposed to safety -- law enforcement -- First Responders -- and the fine young men and women who serve us in this vary dangerous and thankless line of work. Do I think they should be held accountable for any injuries or accidents that our First Responders are involved in? YES! And furthermore I am in the camp of many of the First responders who believe the NNN and GOP are financially and legally liable --- meaning lawsuits could develop against the Nayboobs in which they may forfeit the costs suffered by our First Responders. I for one am willing to join a class - action lawsuit that would go after them and put them in their place -- in the toilet bowl -- where they belong. I would also encourage our Police Department to closely monitor all of the Nayboobs for fear that they may harm our uniformed First Responders because as we know -- they have been threatening them for months and years. |

General up keep and scheduled maintenance would have prevented this mishap............yes? |

You would think, or they would have been prepared for it, at least. When have you ever heard of a fire truck having a flat tire? Who do THEY call when you call THEM? |

My theory is that someone from the Alliance Party sabotaged the tire. |

My theory is, the jolly volley in charge of checking the tires got completely sh*t faced at the fire house bar and forgot. Or second theory, the chief told the jolly volley to 'check the tires' and the volley was so drunk, he thought he said 'go start fires'. Easy mistake. |
