Bathrooms can be converted to handicap accessable, ramps can be installed to allow access to the building, and generators can be moved to higher ground above the high water mark. If it's a snorkel truck that they want just build a separate building to house that truck alone as that would be a lot cheaper.

After attending the Planning Commission meeting and seeing the plans, I have decided that it is a very good plan -- nothing frivolous .. everything proposed is very much needed to bring the building up to current standards and to ensure that the Pine Grove Dist #5 is able to continue to provide the excellent fire protection service that they have provide for many decades.

Well since you were the only person to attend of course you would think it was a good idea.  It seems
by the lack of people attending the meeting that you don't have a clue that no one wants this expansion.

The town isn't being asked to spend any money on the project.  It is up to the property owners in the fire district  (which includes a good portion of Princetown and a part of Guilderland).  The cost will not be any lower waiting for the economy to improve.

The building is 40 years old and is not big enough for the new LARGER fire and rescue vehicles ... NONE of the improvements are frivolous .. ALL are necessary -----  like moving the emergency generator, all HVAC equipment and the office and communications center  to the new 1st floor which will be above the 500 year flood level.

The other alternative is to build a completely new building -- and that would cost much more than expanding the existing building.

The final decision will be made by the property owners IN the fire district --- we don't need nayboobs from OUTSIDE the district telling us what is worth spending OUR money on.   Any candidate or would-be candidate from OUTSIDE the district who tries to politicize this decision ... will have hell to pay for interfering with OUR right to make up our own minds and to support OUR fire district.

What planet are you on?  You DO NOT PAY TAXES = YOU HAVE NO VOTE ON THIS = YOU HAVE NO OPINION ON THIS!

Americans with disabilities act and ANSI 117.1 will require the Architect signing off on the plans to make sure Grandma can use the restroom when she attends the wedding reception.

He probably holds on to a lot more than that

Residents in that district have said that it would be cheaper to bring the already existing building up to code and will not vote forthis beast of a tax increase. Not now anyway. Like they said.....we voted down rems....we'll vote this down too.

(whaps bumbletru with a rolled up newspaper)

THAT is precisely what the proposal will do --- improve the EXISTING facility and bring it up to standards ... and add a 4,000 sq ft "barn" to house the 4 pieces of fire fighting equipment and use the existing garage to house the 4 pieces of rescue and evac equipment.

The only other options are  a) do nothing [which is NOT an acceptable option]  or  b) build a completely new building someplace else - which would cost about 3 times as much.

Unfortunately, people like you whose only desire is to cut off our public safety institutions at the knees will lie and distort the TRUTH about this project to attempt to get your way.   I am confident that those residents of Princetown, Guilderland and Rotterdam who live IN  District #5 and who value public safety will overwhelmingly vote YES on the proposal.

I will give you another option:

MERGE WITH DISTRICT 4 and have a small garage on-site and raised for a couple of fire trucks. (the only problem is that the garage would cost 2 million because it would more bells and whistles than the Space Shuttle.)

That would mean politicos in the making would not be able to get their career started as fire chiefs and of course there would be one less private club for the elected officials to go give hand jobs at during the pancake dinner.

Why am I even arguing with the clown? What a dummy I am: he can't even vote in this referendum.

Bottom line is that the folks won't and can't afford another tax increase if they can vote against it.

From what rotterdamians are hearing....their town budget is out of control and are bracing for a major tax increase. Rotterdamians are NOT going to vote for yet another one! That is just plain NUTS!

I agree with GB...merge it with #4.

Your statements are full of lies and your usual level of ignorance and hatred towards anything in having to do with public safety.

Another attempt by you to lie and mislead ---  this has NOTHING to do with the town budget.

I am either not relaying my thoughts correctly or you have a reading comprehension problem....in either case....we'll give it another try and I will try to simplify it....k?

1. next year's rotterdam town budget will clearly increase taxes...hence higher taxes to be paid.

2. bonding a new $3.5M fire house ....hence higher taxes to be paid.

Rotterdamians have no control over #1....but they do have control by voting against #2.
