Does this department already own equipment that doesn't fit in the building - or will there be another $ layout for new equipment coming down the pike?
If they already own it, where is it now parked?
Still no answer to my question |

“But it hasn’t been changed dramatically at all since it was built in 1970,” he said. LeTarte said there is a lengthy list of issues with the station. For instance, the building isn’t compliant with the Americans with Disabilities act, has its electric utilities located within a flood plain and lacks the space to accommodate modern equipment.
help me to know why this is important....will it be used as a Senior Center too?????? |

Such UTTER CRAP, to claim that $3.5 million is needed in order to fight fires
The city of Schenectady's fire stations are very very very old buildings and no where near the proposed multi-miliion dollar palaces here, and yet Schenectady successfully get to fires and put them out. |

The volunteers deserve respect in the highest regard
BUT
a lot of what goes on the firehouse when they are not fighting fires well.....been there...done that
have to use what is available....and call for backup when necessary. and that is not a bad thing.
let's not have what happens in law enforcement......state, county, city town...fill in the blanks where necessary |

You don't even know anything about the subject --- District #5 is NOT proposing a palace -- they are proposing a new larger "barn" to house the longer and higher fire fighting apparatus .. the largest truck now just BARELY fits in the existing "barn" when the doors are closed and that truck is 20-some years old and newer versions of the same truck are taller and longer. Furthermore - District #5 serves TWICE as many houses as it did in 1970 and an increasing number of commercial buildings (in district - this includes new commercial construction in Guilderland and Princetown ... and out of the district it is often called to assist at fires in the Rotterdam Corporate Park. --- commercial building fires require equipment to deal with hazardous materials and those pieces of equipment are being built larger than they were in the 1970's). Finally, two of Schenectady's stations - the main fire house on Veeder Avenue and the one up on upper State Street are LESS than 20 years old. So I suggest that you get your FACTS straight before you make any further comments. |

but they pay taxes to the fire district(s) in which the buildings are located ... so they are IN FACT paying for the fire service that they receive and by your logic -- we should just hand each resident a bucket of water and a bucket of sand .. and tell them to put out their own fires |

This proposal is a hail Mary. They know the taxpayers are sucked bone dry and know the economy is going to get worse before it gets better. This might have passed 3 years ago, but it will go down the same as the REMS. The first responders know the residents are looking to take the scalpel to the excess the first responders enjoyed over the past few decades. The chickens are coming home to roost. |

they can privately pay for the 'special' equipement needed.....I'm sure they could arrange it....they are not stupid people or are they? |

Rotterdamians are going to get hit with a county and a town tax increase. Couple that with the rising cost of EVERYTHING!! No jobs in an uncertain economy is a sure recipe for a 'thumbs down' on this proposal!! The banks aren't even letting money out and yet rotterdamians are expected to give out theirs!! Most folks aren't even getting their annual raises!! Nah......this is dead in the water. |
